No team is getting into the playoffs without winning their own division

Texas has one loss and wins their conference..............not a damn bit of a problem with it.

The committee should, and usually does get the BEST teams. In the scenario provided, LSU should get in! All conferences are not created equal so a 1 loss SEC team that beat the Big 12 champ should get the nod.

What if that other 1 loss team was Texas and LSU loses a close one to Bama?

Gotta say, hard to see this leading to LSU being left out.

Especially if Texas sprinkles in some close wins against lesser opponents.

Texas would be a conference champion which LSU would not, including 2 wins over a top 5 Oklahoma. I'm just telling you what logic and rationale would prove to be, I'm not the one on the committee. Your resume is all that matters to the playoff committee. Winning your conference is extremely important. Not losing bad games is important. Good wins are important. Neither team would have a bad loss. Texas would be a conference champ but not LSU. Texas would have 2 wins that are as good or better as LSU's best.

They also strongly take head-to-head into consideration, especially when a team won on the road. If both LSU and Texas have one loss, I'd find it very unlikely Texas gets in over LSU, conference champions or not.

Same could be said if Georgia beats ND but loses the SEC championship to Bama/LSU and if its a decision between ND at 11-1 and Georgia at 12-1. I think the biggest thing that would hurt Georgia a little more would be that it is a fresh loss.

There is a difference between top 4 team and making playoffs. Silly to predict the playoffs without knowing the unique situation that arises.

LSU isn’t getting in if they lose to Bama.

Bama probably gets in if they lose to LSU.
This is the first year I somewhat doubt that, just because Bama got DESTROYED in the NC last year, so maybe they won’t get the benefit of the doubt anymore.

I'm not getting all of the LSU hype. The #7 team in the nation, goes on the road, and beats the #9 team in the nation. They handled their business...like they were supposed to.
But it wasn't like they boat raced Texas, a team we're not even sure about their worthiness yet.
Joe Burrow was all world, I get that. But what happens when balls are dropped? Passes are overthrown? What happens when BAMA takes away the passing game?
They had no running game. LSU offense was markedly improved vs. LY because they could score and score in bunches. But they need to be a complete game before you start talking CFP and even moreso #1.

No one is saying they are #1 in the nation.

All the hype is around the shiny new offense that can score points. That's what draws peoples' attention so of course the media will be enamored with that (even though I prefer to focus on defense). Plus, many people have said for years that all LSU needs to do is get an offense with a pulse and they will be a contender. They have that now. So yeah, there will be people that start wondering if LSU can go all the way.

Whether they actually live up to the hype or not is another story.

IMO, there is no way two SEC west teams make it. UGA will at worst have one L in the SEC champ game, and they would get in before the second west team.

My worst nightmare is an undefeated Bama beats both 1-loss LSU and UGA and then we get left out.

So TX and LSU both with one loss....with LSU H2H victory over TX @TX , you telling me you know for a fact the committee would put TX in over LSU?

That would be one hell of a situation for the committee because you would have to assume Georgia would get in being the SEC East champion. You would also have a quality win against ND to match LSU's win over TX. Like I said earlier, the only thing that would work in LSU's favor is that your loss would be fresh in everyone's mind while LSU's would be a couple weeks old with some more wins to cushion it. I still don't think its enough.

shite...now that is my nightmare scenario

Even if LSU looks phenomenal all year but loses to bama and goes 11-1, they still aren't getting in if the other teams win their conference with 1 loss.

Texas winning the Big 12 helps LSU a lot.

The #1 comment was just in regards to the 2 writers who had you all at #1. You're right, your D has always carried you. Even with the excruciatingly painful offensive schemes Les approved, and to some extent initially Coach O, we all knew LSU had talent--it was all about utilization.
I think you all are in headed in the right direction and if you get a running game to go in conjunction, no doubt you'll be in contention when talking about the CFP.

That would help LSU SOS...no doubt.
It'll be interesting to watch the RRR and how Texas schemes to stop Hurts.
I'm in the camp that thinks Hurts has improved, but is it enough progression?
He's getting a lot of hype with the video game numbers but I believe it's a product of Riley's system more than anything.

Ahh gotcha.

Yeah, our run game has not been impressive so far. At the same time we haven't needed it or really tried that hard and failed. It will be interesting to see what happens when we find ourselves in a situation where we HAVE to run.

I am very eager to see some of our freshmen get more work though.
