That would also preclude either Bama/Auburn or Bama/Tenn.

Missouri was Oklahoma's 4th most played game before Mizzou left for the SEC behind OSU, Kansas and Texas.

1. Oklahoma State (100)
2. Kansas (96)
2. Texas (96)
4. Missouri (93)

Would immediately become Missouri's (by far) longest standing rival/opponent in the SEC.

and for all the talk about preserving conference rivalries, there are as many schools with OOC rivalries that would be impacted by moving to a 9 game schedule as there are in conference rivalries being impacted by going to only 1 permanent opponent

there is no perfect answer here

I mean.......if the conference sends more teams to bowl games they make more money.

So this is another way of saying Bama/TN was the 7th out of 8 most watched Bama SEC game. You realize that kinda shows the game isn’t that big, right?

1. Alabama/Auburn (10.4M) (CBS)
2. Alabama/A&M (8.3M) (CBS)
3. Alabama/Florida (7.9M) (CBS)
5. Alabama/Arkansas (5.5M) (CBS)
6. Alabama/LSU (5.1M) (ESPN)
7. Alabama/Ole Miss (4.8M) (CBS)
8. Alabama/Tennessee (4.7M) (ESPN)

And yet, people watch it. More than people watch most other Alabama games, and almost as many as a lot of Alabama games on braodcast (so it isn't an "Alabama thing" only).

1. Alabama/Auburn (10.4M) (CBS)
2. Alabama/A&M (8.3M) (CBS)
3. Alabama/Florida (7.9M) (CBS)
4. Alabama/Miami (5.7M) (ABC)
5. Alabama/Arkansas (5.5M) (CBS)
6. Alabama/LSU (5.1M) (ESPN)
7. Alabama/Ole Miss (4.8M) (CBS)
8. Alabama/Tennessee (4.7M) (ESPN)

That was the whole point. The Alabama/Tennessee is not some specialty matchup that is going to drive the decision of the SEC to choose the 3-6 model when it compares equally to other SEC matchups that Alabama participates in.

I guess Sankey never reviewed this with all the schools prior to last summer. Wonder what the vote would have been if they knew they would possibly lose rivalry games.

You don't really lose them. They just get played every other year instead of every year, and you still get the 1 main one.

A 2-6 would be fine with me also, or even a 3-5. Rotate these teams, get rid of divisions that are so ridiculously unbalanced. Stay at 8 because it's smart, schedule higher quality OOC games to get to a minimum of 10 P5 if desired(I desire it).

SEC teams will finally start to have SoS's that are evened out among teams rather than a few teams like say Arkansas that constantly have the toughest schedule in the country.

Everyone knows that broadcast vs cable is a gulf of difference in terms of eyeballs.

It was the 2nd highest rated cable game behind Alabama/LSU. Nothing else was really even close behind those 2.

Another way or saying it was the worst rated Bama SEC game on cable

Look man, Bama/UT brings in no extra eyeballs. That doesn’t mean you can’t still fight for it, but it isn’t a special draw like some other rivalry games

That is the dumbest part of all of this.

UGA has played Miss St 25 times.
The lack of games against Miss State does not keep any dawg fans awake at night. The fact that we have only played a handful of games against arkansas, texas a&m, missouri, oklahoma, or texas does not bother us either.

It is a faux issue. Scheduling tough opponents is much better for fans than some rotating automatic draw from the conference (half of the teams are below average).

The combination of Alabama/Tennessee, Georgia/Auburn and 2-3 other games has absolutely driven that decision in the past and is one of the things driving that conversation now, yes.

Alabama/Tennessee as the ESPN night game outdraws every other ESPN game in the country during 2021 outside of Alabama/LSU. The argument that "nobody cares about it" is silly. It's not a marquee, Top 10 national game anymore but it's also always going to draw more eyes in than Alabama vs "insert random non-big 6 SEC team here" given the same channel and time.

Dude it was your worst rated SEC game on cable

It was just a “Bama” game. That brought in the eyeballs. There is nothing special about Bama/Ut in terms of outside viewers.

Bama vs A&M would get more viewers on ESPN

Bama vs Arky would get the same as BAma vs UT on espn

Do you even watch SEC football
LSU curently plays UF every year as cross divison rival and Bama is their marquee game
Texas A&M has historic rivalaries with Arky & Texas (unless you are scard to play UT again). They had games with Arky set up at Jerry World before going the SEC
OU playing Texas (current rival)_and Mizzou would be bringnig back a big 12 rival.

you should have stopped at A&M. On average, Bama/Arkanasas would not draw the viewership ALabama/UT does

It’s special enough to almost single-handedly dictate SEC scheduling for decades

If you don’t care about it, that’s fine. But to act like it doesn’t matter is asinine.

LSU is 1-11 in their last 12 against Bama, btw

Why is it always the LSU fans complaining about schedules? No matter what, always and forever

No it wasn't

1. Alabama/LSU (#1 overall) (5.00M)
2. Alabama/Tennessee (#2 overall) (4.68M)
3. Alabama/State (#3 overall) (3.53M)

Bama vs Arky would get the same as BAma vs UT on espn

Bama vs Arky barely got more viewers on CBS for a game between 2 Top 25 teams.
