If the man loves Ole Miss so much, and wants to be a HC (granted no one else at this level is pursuing him) we could have easily signed him at this rate. Who the hell manages these negotiations?

Bjork? Vitter? shite. And people want to talk about Luke not being ready for prime time. Maybe he's more ready than we think-at least in contract negotiations.

This is bush league bullshite. He ain't walking and he's taking whatever they're giving-and $3mil/year was the deal? Holy frick. My dog negotiates better for a treat.

We're supposed to be saving money, not giving away the farm.

Who is getting the kickback from this? Damn it.

I’m disappointed in the Luke hire, from the stand point is what the underlying message is as to what they think is going to happen with NCAA. This is pretty much saying their hands are tied, and Luke can keep things relatively competitive for the next couple of years.

However, it makes me feel much better knowing the shite fest that Drew Richmond is having to go through right now. He didn’t win a single SEC game this year and that program is a dumpster fire without NCAA sanctions. It’s petty as hell, but that makes me happy.

I know this isn’t what any of y’all want to hear, but from an athletic department standpoint you can’t come off as “cheap” in this situation. Could you have probably low balled the shite out of his salary? Yes. But from an outside POV it looks really bad. Media would light us up and it would rub potential hires the wrong way for underpaying a guy even though he would have taken less. It’s still an SEC job requiring SEC level or work. All things considered it’s a discounted rate compared to the average power 5 salary.

ETA: we still come out ahead in terms or saving money but don’t get a black eye for being cheap asses with Luke’s current pay structure. Paying Luke $1M a year is a big frick you to him and shows you have 0 confidence in him. That’s not the message the university is trying to send.

Yeah, but lets' first hire a SEC caliber coach.

Matt would not be in the top half of JC coaches in Mississippi.

This is stupid because they can't think we are cheap but the second we offer a potential successor a much higher pay check he stops caring what you paid luke.

Name one coach in our top 5 that would come here without knowing the sanctions. Y’all act like good coaches (coaches we actually want) are lining up to come coach. We got turned down by all our first options. Why TF would we go take a chance on some scrub when we have a 6-6 coach on staff that already has the locker room won. No one worth a damn is going to waste their up and coming shot on an SEC job in this situation. If we don’t get hammered by the NCAA we can evaluate next year when there aren’t 6 SEC jobs open.

^^^As long as there isn't some ridiculous buyout, I'm on board with this.

Hard not to read about Mississippi State's search and be incredibly jealous of their Athletic Director. Guy didn't need to hire a search firm and looks like they have some great candidates to choose from. Reading about this Moorehead guy I think he will be a solid head coach. Not sure if he's ready for recruiting in the SEC, but definitely an offensive mind and someone I wish we had interviewed. Hopefully Luke's Mississippi connections will give an advantage for recruiting against any of the MS State candidates.

Mississippi State’d program isn’t a flaming pile of shite about to be pushed in by the NCAA cesspool. Of course they made a good hire.

Give dude from Penn State $6 million a year for 5 years, I guarantee he comes.

As much as you want to just throw money at the problem you can’t magically make people want to jump into this mess. The “splash hire” you want won’t come until we’re done with the NCAA shitstorm. Sucks and isn’t sexy or attention grabbing like we all want but there isn’t much we can do at the moment.

I understand your frustration. I just don’t have the emotional equity to throw at it that some of you do. We could have done better than Luke, but we didn’t. If it hastens Bjork’s departure, at least we can be thankful for that much. He’s as guilty as Hugh IMO, and largely getting a pass for wtf knows why.

I was coming here to post this.

Money can't fix a program on the brink of destruction and magically make a coach want to be there. Sorry. UT is a prime example.

I've lived in TN most of my life coaches don't wanna go there because they have crazy unrealistic expectations with absolutely no instate talent.

And btw, why is this? That's a big state. And yeah I know Memphis a basketball town, but there are still many private schools around there that should be putting out football talent that doesn't care to play at Memphis.

because what they did won games. I don't care if we paid players or not. The only reason I wanted Hugh fired was because he called hookers on a university phone. I couldn't care less if we cheated to get good recruits and neither should you.

1. It's 80% white. Past Nashville its more like 98%
2. We get the Memphis kids
3. Nashville for some reason doesn't put out a lot of talent for whatever reason.
