It should be 2 million and a 250k bonus for every SEC win.

I understand the angle, but nonetheless I am surprised there wasn't an official offer made to frank wilson. I think he would have taken the job, and he's a good coach

If we had to get a sacrificial lamb this was the person that I wanted to get, but hey Matt Luke is as good as anyone for being someone to fall on the sword for us IMO.

Bjork needs to GTFO IMO. How he's still our AD after everything that's gone down is joke to me. I'm sure I'll get down votes for this, but all honesty, this is dumb, and it'll come back to haunt us. Idk what anyone sees in Luke as a potential great coach. I see nothing. He's been here through the cheating, and it seems to me they're just trying to keep in House. I want to see the deck completely cleared and the swamp drained starting with Bjork. I have no trust in any of these people. They all know what Hugh Freeze was doing. I don't like it at all.

I'm with you on this 100% but the only problem is do we clean house now or wait until we are through these sanctions and try to get someone then that might be more willing to come at that time?

That would be fine with me but him making 3 million a year is a spit in the face. thats a lot of money we could have used on assistance's.

Go to someone at a mid major program (Chad Morris) and say you'll pay them 6 million a year and they are guaranteed at least 5 years. If you don't think they take that deal, you're dumb.

I don’t care if we have 10 mil to pay someone, overpaying a no name coach isn’t going to magically make us good next year.

Luke is holding the team together while we are on probation. If we get a 2 year and he somehow gets AJ DK and Shea and everyone else to stay he will be worth it. You can’t honestly tell me some mid major no name would be able to come in and convince guys he’s never met to stay and magically win games without players.

In recruiting we will be behind the 8 ball enough already, cleaning house for anyone less than a homerun hire would put us back to square 1. We have a big relationship advantage over State right now with instate kids since mullen is gone. As big a letdown it is to do a search and hire the interim, it would be malpractice for Ross to not only throw away 6 mil on a 3 mil coach, but also throw away any advantage we had recruiting while we were on probation at the same time.

ETA: if luke doesn’t workout at least we can easily part ways with him and make a hire with no COI looming. If we throw 6 mil at our 9th choice we are locked in for 5-6 years.

If he gets Shea, AJ, and whoever else to stay with a two year bowl ban who gives a ish...we still are going to suck arse for the foreseeable future. So why base that future on a couple guys who could STILL decide to leave and at best probably only have 1 year remaining at OM anyway?

Damn, is this true?

That is ridiculous, why pay someone so much when you know they would take the job for half the amount?

Also, use that money to get an OC not named Longo.

Sorry you're all so delusional about where we stand right now. Just suck it up and live through the bad times. Pray to whatever god you believe in that Luke makes a decent OC hire and somehow we avoid a winless season.

well said.

Are we even going to be lucky enough to see Luke fire Longo?

That's what Neal said on the podcast something like 3.1 million a year with a 100k raise every year.

Oh and a role over year so really 5 years.

I mean, we basically are just going the cheap route for the next couple of years... seems smart to me. We are about to get buukkake'd by the NCAA so the admin is just saying "oh well, we'll just at least field a team". Saving money for when sanctions are finished... Spending all of our saved up cash on a big name coach.

Why base our future on the 9th or 10th choice candidate during a high turnover coaching offseason AND COI looming when we can wait a year or 2 if luke sucks and get best available?

If we are going to suck anyway we need to wait a year to hire someone when we are more attractive. I’d be willing to bet Shea, AJ and DK sell more tickets next year with Luke than all those guys leaving and we have some noname coaching whoever stays when we get a 2 year ban.

He would have taken the job for 2 million though or maybe even cheaper with some great incentives.

Is he owed his full pay if he’s fired? If those 4 years are guaranteed, bjork is just plain incompetent. Could have offered Luke half this pay and he would have taken it.

They didn't go into the specifics of his buyout. I just wanna know that we got a 5 year bowl ban so I can accept this hire.

Wait.. wut? I'm fine with the Luke hire, but who the frick volunteered to pay him $3mil/year? That's fricking crazy. He would have taken it for $1mil. Hell-he would have taken it for $500k and a lifetime supply of chicken-on-a-stick.

Give him $1mil and $250k for every SEC win. There's your incentive.

That's what I'm so distraught over we are paying him at least a million dollars too much. I could have accepted this hire but only if I knew we were saving some money while we tried the Luke experiment. I'll be 40 before we are good again and that's if we are lucky.

Agree. That is quite the contract for a guy who has never been a HC.

If he can hire decent coordinators and delegate the play calling, ok, it is what it is.
If he continues to look like a deer in the headlights when things are going sour
the buyout better be low. If the NCAA goes for the kill shot then none of this matters
for a few years anyway.
