Neal from Rivals sums it up nicely (public post)

quote:

Luke won’t push season ticket sales. If rumors are true, he’s going to hire a very Ole Miss-centric coaching staff. Fairly or not, his hire will be perceived by a younger generation of Ole Miss alumni and fans as the ultimate good ol’ boy hire, a sign that the school’s decision-makers are more concerned with hobnobbing at the country club than winning on the nation’s biggest stage. That's not the stuff that fills seats on hot days in meaningless seasons.

The only way it makes sense is if we are getting a two year bowl ban because with Luke at the helm, we aren’t going to a bowl game.

You mean except for like the one we would have gone to this year?

That bowl would have been thanks to the talent Freeze brought in.

Luke's coaching literally lost us more games, and the games we won can be accredited to the sheer talent of the players.

This is nothing short of a slap in the face to the fanbase.

I understand the angle, but nonetheless I am surprised there wasn't an official offer made to frank wilson. I think he would have taken the job, and he's a good coach

Screw him, Screw everyone that is ok with this and screw giving him a chance. I will not watch a single down or support Ole Miss football while he is our head coach.

I hope Ole Miss football runs a massive deficit and they average 20,000 fans at best the next two years.

This was the right move. Get behind or GTFO
Easy decision. Enjoy supporting a losing program with losers in charge over the next 3 years.

Guarantee we only win 6 games at best over the next 2 years.

Assuming there will be sanctions, this is a solid hire. No quality hire would come with sanctions, any hire would probably require hefty paycheck + buyout protection

That would be expensive AF hire + still would have to buy out remaining deal for guys like McGriff, Luke etc who are owed millions.

Hard to see a sanctioned team rallying the base to fund something like that

Awful hire. I like the guy, don't get me wrong. He's all Oxford and Ole Miss too the bone, but that's not why you hire a guy. He's not a good head coach. I felt pissed at his play calling and coaching al season, even in games we won, because he'd always let teams back in it. Who knows if we would've got anyone better, but it's worth the chance. Great guy, and great loyalty to our school, and I love that, but I don't believe in him as a coach. It's the easy way out for our administration. They always try to take the easy way out, and always fricks us (the fans) over. I have zero trust in this administration at Ole Miss. Bjork needs to GTFO IMO. How he's still our AD after everything that's gone down is joke to me. I'm sure I'll get down votes for this, but all honesty, this is dumb, and it'll come back to haunt us. Idk what anyone sees in Luke as a potential great coach. I see nothing. He's been here through the cheating, and it seems to me they're just trying to keep in House. I want to see the deck completely cleared and the swamp drained starting with Bjork. I have no trust in any of these people. They all know what Hugh Freeze was doing. I don't like it at all.

This. You will never convince me there wasn't a coach out there somewhere we could have guaranteed 5 years minimum and 6 million a year and they wouldn't have taken it.

This administration is spineless and doesn't deserve the support that they have been getting. I hope they are embarrassed nationally when nobody shows up to any of the football games the next few years. And honestly, I hope AJ Brown and any other good player transfers just so they can feel like even bigger dumbasses for forcing this hire.

From 247 Public Article:

quote:

After Ole Miss’ upset of Mississippi State, Patterson and Brown, per sources, were among the players who approached Bjork and said they’d transfer out if Luke wasn’t the head coach. Luke has the overwhelming support of his players, is the point, and it appears that support is what pushed Luke over the finish line.

We'll be playing out of love for each other the next few years. We sure as hell won't be playing out of love for winning games.

So we bent to a couple of players who might make the difference between 4 and 5 wins next season? That's like letting a couple of petulant toddlers blackmail you into giving them ice cream for dinner.
