The daily/hourly "year 7" RG insider report was always just wishful thinking. We were all guilty of hearing what we wanted to hear.

I feel like relitigating the scene of the crime. So I shall.

The conventional wisdom was that LK was just visiting OM and would move on at some point. That was probably LK's intentions as well. Initially for that reason I was against the hire. But nobody asked me.

In any event, the LK cache coupled with a well managed NIL program and ultimately a little luck (Chambliss) produced progressively better than anticipated results. I must admit It settled in on me pretty quick and I felt better than I had about OM football since 2016 NFL draft . Everyone was calling 2025 a rebuilding year after the 2024 shite show (losing to Kentucky/Florida with that roster and the inexplicable RB issue). The success of the 2025 season just caught everyone off guard including LK and then the foreshadowed "opportunities" piled on.

Because of the success at OM you will never convince me that LK wasn't genuinely struggling with his decision to stay or that he hasn't always been a professional Douch Bag (but at the time my Douche Bag) both can be true.

Although it likely would not have change what ultimately happened, OM should not have given LK an ultimatum in early/mid November, especially since Pete was always the back-up plan and it was clear that LK wasn't announcing anything until "after the season". That's a moving target. With no ultimatum the pressure would have been on LSU/Florida to press the issue and neither were going to wait until "after the season" for LK to make a decision. It would have been interesting to see how that approach would have worked out.

I also believe it is less likely LK leaves if we would have beat either Kentucky or Florida in 2024 (thereby making the play-offs 2024) to go along with the pending play-off run last year.

If you analyze all the conference games LK won over his 6 years at OM most were nail biters coupled with some abracadabra. LK actually never did anything at OM to hang a banner over or paint the stadium with. If you take away two or three wins each year, then on average, LK was really no better on the field than HF (except HF beat Saban twice vs LK beat Georgia once). Five years from now hopefully winning those games is not something we talk about anymore.

Undeniably everybody wanted LK anyway and for good or bad that is really all that matters in modern college football where money talks. Pete definitely seems loyal to me. For that reason alone I am onboard. Maybe Pete will be HF 2.0 without the burner phone or LK 2.0 without the Douche Bag. I will gladly take either.
