We were contemplating doing just that and the ptb decided that Hugh was one of us. Who’s to say what would’ve happened had he hired the similar stud assistants or coordinators to help assist.

I think he is a bit washed up now and we can do better.

If we dropped leach in with our current staff we’d be pretty dang salty. Leach can just be the face of the program drawing tons of media attention and let the assistants grind it out day to day recruiting. He can also actually do something on game day when it comes to planning and executing a game plan

Leach would have to commit more time and effort to recruiting. i wouldn't want to see a repeat of Spurrier at USC.

Leach would be a Home Run hire but who knows if Ole Miss administration would hire him. Who would you rather hire a coach that has won everywhere he’s been or a great recruiter? We’ve basically signed top 25 classes since Coach O was hired outside of a couple of years. We aren’t signing top 5 classes every year. We have to be able to evaluate and develop players to complete. I think Leach would have us slightly better than what Mullen did at State.

His team went 11-2 and finished in the top ten last year

People forget how good Sakerlina was from 2010 - 2013.

[quote]He's known to be a lazy recruiter, which on the west coast he can get away with because a good scheme can win you 8-10 games a year. In the SEC, ACC, or really even the big10 you can't win that way [quote]
When did Virginia, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Wake Forest, and Michigan State becomes recruiting powerhouses? All of those teams recruit “worse” than us but have had much more consistent success lately.

and they are still trying to dig out from his departure where he quit recruiting and quit the team midseason.

That was four years ago. I’d be willing to bet 90% of the Sakerlina roster are Muschamp ’croots.
Stay on topic here. Why haven’t we offered Mike Leach the job?

Those teams average 6-8 wins a year for the most part. They always have. What do they have to recruit with? We've seen that Ole Miss can recruit at a high level with the right people. I'd take stinking a few years then getting good, than being constantly average at best

I'm more concerned about the future of our program due to the fact that we have focused our enrollment efforts on out of state kids to get that sweet out of state tuition, while ignoring Mississippi.
We still have a lot of in-state students as well, and they tend to be really solid kids in my experience. And if half the enrollment (more than half at the moment) is in-state, that's still as many Ole Miss grads from MS as ever, as undergraduate enrollment is twice what it was in 2000. We're probably graduating quite a bit more students from MS than we were in the aughts, not to mention before, when you look at the numbers.
Of course, the majority of them who do well here and networked/interned wisely tend to move on as well. But that is an entirely different issue.

Umm, we haven't even been consistently average since the 1970s.
Your mindset is what I do not understand. You say "pssssh, no thanks" to a coach who you believe would make us "constantly average." However, our program is in such poor shape that we are not even "constantly average" over the past 50 years. Why don't we make it to the "constantly average" level before worrying about winning a championship (something we haven't done since the 1960s). Do you see what I'm saying?

Luke is the worse than Steve Sloan. We couldn’t get a worse coach. He was a bad line coach as well. If he really love Ole Miss, he would resign.

OM will hire a guy like Mike Norvell and he'll bomb. It's a lot easier when you don't care anymore. Leach just blew a 49-17 lead at home, btw. Outscored 50-14 with 3:28 to go in the 3rd by a terrible UCLA team

Damnation, UCLA scored 29 in the fourth quarter to win 67-63 over Washington State.

Saw where UCLA had 29 points off of 6 turnovers
