If I ever hit the lottery or if I ever buy land that has a ton of oil on it, I'm going to go to Nick Saban or Dabo and say "Hey Nick/Dabo. I know you make 10 million a year. How does 30 million a year sound?"

So who has some land they want to sell that has some oil under it?

Average is what we already have in Luke. I have no doubt that if given time he would make the program a 7-8 win team. The problem is EVERYONE knows he would NEVER have the in game ability to do much better than 9 wins max.

Thank you. People just say things at times that sound good. Leave hasn't ever shown the ability to recruit on the level required to win big in the SEC.

When was the last time scheme and marginal talent won the SEC? I'll wait.

Uhh, Dan Mullen went 69-46 just down the road . . . Bobby Petrino shredded some SEC defenses. James Franklin won 18 games in 2 years at Vandy. Mark Stoops has signed just one top 25 class (and none of those guys were on the roster last year). Rich Brooks made 4 straight bowl games in Lexington.

Y’all shite on potentially winning 8-9 games per year when we can’t even muster that many wins. y’all act like we are above it, when, in reality, we are no different than any of the other little eight members.

I just don’t get it.

Which is average. So he won't improve at all. And how do you figure we are average right now? We are well below average, borderline horrible.

We want more. Being ok and "accepting who we are" is what's wrong with our program. We are ok just winning 6-8 games a year

Hell, look at Oregon. They were irrelevant for the longest time (Baylor and TCU too) and they were able to go above and beyond to become relevant for titles. Why can't we? I couldn't agree more with that statement, Henry. We've won it all before

I’m not saying give up on winning titles.

I’m simply saying we should hire a coach whose goal is to make us consistently good for a while. We can worry about bigger stuff later. Basically, why worry about titles when we can’t even be consistently good, or, much less, make bowl games? It’s pretty clear.

If 6-9 wins per year is “average,” we are clearly well below it.

Oregon and Baylor have more money than we do and don’t compete in the SEC West.

It’s not apples to apples.

Again, I’m not saying we need to abandon all hope for titles. I’m simply saying why don’t we try and be consistently good, or at least make a few bowl games, before we start crowing about a lack of hardware.

Oh they definitely have more money than we do and unfortunately don't have our schedule. It is frustrating though that we'd be considered the 7th or 8th best program though outside the top 6. I definitely agree we need to be consistently good before the thought of titles come into play. You'd think we could've kept up some type of momentum after Vaught

This is all pretty good debate on what average is and what we really want. To me it's pretty damn simple: I'll TAKE 7 and certainly 8 regular season wins a year however we can get them. It doesn't mean I wouldn't very much enjoy more occasionally and it also doesn't mean we might stare down a 4 or 5 wins occasionally, too. I'd just rather us not have to blow up the program and start over to get to either.

For those that inevitably respond and say “why can’t we do both?”

We can’t. Our entire history history shows we can’t. If we turn down a proven winner like Leach because he doesn’t win enough, then we are bound to mire in mediocrity forever.

I’m aware Leach’s cougars lost in mind-numbing fashion on Saturday. However, Wazzou has still won 40 of their past 56 games. I would be willing to bet we haven’t won 72% of a given 56 game stretch since Vaught. Losses happen and they will to us too. Remember Memphis in 2015?

That’s cute. I remember when I also thought OM was just one hire away from hitting it big

We haven’t done this yet.

Let’s make an access bowl first, before we go all National championship-or-bust

As much as it pains us all to say, state is our most comparable peer. Look what Mullen did there. Spent time establishing a 7-5, 8-4 base. After that was established as the floor, 9 or 10 seasons became the expectation. He just bailed before they could take it that far (and the program probably hit its peak- take your pick)

We need a few 7-5 8-4 seasons before we need to even think about championships. The fact that we’re even debating this is ridiculous

This x10000000. See above.

We’ll worry about only winning 7-9 games per year when we get there, I’d we get there, because that sounds a whole hell of a lot better than this bullshite:

Losing seasons since 1992: 2019 (probably), 2018, 2016, 2011, 2010, 2007, 2006, 2005, 2004, 1997, and 1994.

Henry is still relatively young and hasn't gotten old and cynical like the rest of us. He believes the SECc game is one coach away.

I’m still in my 20s (not for much longer), but I’m aware of our issues.

I bet you've been an OM fan longer. Just a guess obviously

Also I'm not that much older than you either

For all the folks in here complaining about Mike Leach “topping out” at 8 wins, just know that we’ve won 8 or more games less than anyone else in our division since the 1992 expansion

This thread is stupid. We aren’t going to try and hire Leach. We will probably keep Luke just to make Henry have a melt.
