re: If it's not Georgia or Texas as SEC champs, who do you think has the best shot?

This is a legitimate discussion.

There WILL be a major drop-off in production for OM.
Then act like it. We're returning arguably the top QB/RB combo in the nation and our new OC JDB was Co-OC at Ole Miss with Charlie Weis Jr for 2 seasons before taking over the reigns at ECU for 2 seasons and now he is back. This is as ideal of a transition offensively as Ole Miss could hope for. Your assertion of a major drop off is off base, but we'll find out soon enough.

Oklahoma and Ole Miss. Both are strong at QB. Both schools play UGA & Texas and face off with each other. Head to head tie breakers could make the difference for who gets to play in Atlanta.

re: Ole Miss fans: what's your expectation for 2026?
Posted by OMapologist on 8/7/26 at 8:57 am to Naked Bootleg
I'm expecting a similar result to last season. The roster is better, deeper on paper. The schedule is tougher. We have a new coaching staff, but the same system.
Guys stayed healthy and we won a lot of one score games to finish 11-1. We'll need that to happen again. Anywhere from 9-11 wins is within reason. Anything less than 9 wins would be a major disappointment. 10-2 and another CFP run is the official expectation. Must win at least 1 of Texas, UGA, OU and take care of business elsewhere.

Idk why he is not going to pro. He is trying to return to a new OC, a new QB coach, a new HC. He won't have a better year than this past year.
Same QB coach, same system, one full year under his belt. It'll be hard to top this season, sure, but he improved nearly every week. More of the same from Trinidaddy incoming.

It is true, the documentary was well put together.

Nobodies crying, just calling your coach a douchebag.

We shouldn’t have to. Kiffin himself made an entire documentary saying as much. Hence why he’s a douchebag.

Uh huh, but you did want him though.

The interesting thing to watch will be how Kiffin handles the increased pressure and visibility of LSU. The first time he loses a game he should have won the fans will begin turning on him. Narcissists generally do not handle criticism well. They usually react with rage - against critics - or victimhood - deflecting blame with projection and gaslighting. Either way, it will be entertaining to watch.
Kiffin was right about at least one thing, he needed Oxford more than Oxford needed him.

Plus the optics of keeping him instead of letting LSU have him is good
Perception = Reality. Having an All-American RB transfer out is a bad look. We should do everything we can to keep him that way either
A. we keep him or
B. we force LSU to pay every dollar we can for his services
This answer is TBD on Sugar Bowl results. If Lacy is non factor against Dawgs again, more inclined to let him go. If Lacy shows up big time, gotta keep him.
re: Does this make Notre Dame rethink its stance as a football Independent?

Notre Dame should absolutely play in a conference. Over the long haul they’re middle of the pack with Clemson, FSU, Miami, and others. I’m glad they’re out & hope they reconsider.

If you live in the state of Mississippi, it's probably Mississippi State. If you live out of state, which many Ole Miss alum do, it's probably LSU.

When you frame it up like that… in such make or break finality… you sure don’t give yourself anywhere to go in the case it doesn’t work out.
I still feel it's truth though and if I'm being honest, I'm 50/50 on whether or not Pete can or will sustain the success moving forward. Doesn't help my confidence that he was never really mentioned to be the guy until we were out of other options. But with a resume like his, I'm all for giving him a chance to do something special.
Lane got us this point and now the college football world is watching to see how far we can take it from here.

You can't overstate the importance of winning that first playoff game in our post Kiffin era. We prove right then and there Ole Miss can beat quality opponents without Kiffin. This entire off season narrative hinges on the outcome.

I'm not tracking on the Pete Golding to Matt Luke comparisons.
Luke coached under Cutcliffe/Ed O/Freeze
Golding coached under Saban & Kiffin
I see no reason to draw conclusions that Pete will find the same results as Matt.

You act like we had a better option, or another option at all. We did not and considering the circumstances this was the best outcome.
