I think Perkins excels at blizting the QB during passes. I don’t think stopping the run is his strength and that’s why I wanted him to add 10-20 lbs.

He had 3.5 sacks as a freshman when he didn't play that much and 10.5 sacks his sophomore year. 1/3 of the way through his senior season and he has .5 a sack. Not sure if this is a scheme issue or what.

We have played 2 running QBs and UF who never had to throw. He did a great job spying Leavitt and Kienholz just doesn’t show up as sacks.

Perkins may be a pass rush or spying specialist, but surely to god he can tackle better just in a general sense than some of our guys were doing against Florida. It's not that he's small in the grand scheme of things and he can run like the wind... I would think he'd be on the field as much as possible for the most part.

I remember it well, but that was a straight up offensive facemask that should have been called. The Louisville QB took down Perkins with his facemask. But I get your point.

I am giving Pete a pass on the DC situation this year, because of the clusterfrick at the end of last season. Trying to prepare for playoffs/recruit/portal did not allow him to get his guy in there. The situation sucks this year, but it is what it is.

I can't agree. He was given the tools to hire a DC. He chose to call the plays himself. I hope he comes to the realization that he cannot do both, not at this level, anyway. That defense last Saturday was so bad that they seriously need to install a new scheme. We knew Florida was going to run the ball. Florida knew that we knew they were going to run the ball. They did it anyway and we couldn't stop it. That's a head coach's wet dream kind of game. We are an SEC program just a few months from the semifinals in the playoff and you're going to allow a running game to hang 50+ points? It's inexcusable. The only salve for that kind of irritation is to get the shite fixed before we drop any more.

Not having our defense ready for run defense vs FL was the dumbest thing Pete has done since taking over has HC.. Everyone knew what the Gators was going to do.. Now every team we go vs is going just try running the ball on us!

He hired that one dude and then the Falcons hired him. Guess he decided not to pivot.

To be fair, the offense that Florida runs is pretty badass. Helps having the stud RBs they've got. Buster Faulkner is doing a great job. They're a fun offense to watch that is all go. I'd happily trade JDB for Faulkner.

I get it. I’m just going to be patient on total judgement with defensive organization since he was so behind in the schedule with hiring. There’s a reality that we’ve got to understand before getting irrationally mad about the cards he was dealt with preparing for this year.

I'm going to give him time but at the same time, that was just embarrassingly bad defense. If he drops another one like that, people are going to start thinking we made a mistake. Right or wrong, that is reality.

Hope Pete is watching this state game. 1, see what happens when you keep feeding your best receiver. Would love for deuce to get the amount of throws his way Evans is. And 2, we better rush 5 every single time against state. He'll carve us up if we insist on believing we can get to him with 3 or 4

better rush 5

Agreed. We've shown absolutely no ability to be disruptive only rushing 4 (outside of the LSU game).

We need to manufacturer pressure

Let’s just say my confidence in our ability to stop a competent offense is not at an all-time high
