I’m sure that’s common, but just adds to the “country” for me

I think it’s about 50 miles north of the Florida-Alabama state line. The whole drive from Memphis to the Panhandle is the quintessential south IMO.

Florida gets a reputation for not being genuinely southern but the Panhandle is the real deal.

US route 1 from Augusta to Baxley gets my nomination. Ain’t hardly anything on that stretch through Wrens, Louisville, Swainsboro, and Vidalia.

Hell. The other end of US 1 from Baxley to the state line might be worse. Lol. Alma to Folkston thru the okefenokee swamp

I'm not sure if West Virginia counts as the South but it's the countriest place I've ever been.
