Income tax is theft, consumption based tax is fair.

You need tax to have a proper government so as long as they make sense and are fair.

In the modern world, yes. In a just society, it's merely a bribe.

That's a separate issue. You can say we need a government, but that doesn't preclude taxes from being theft.

Imagine a poor homeless family with a young child. Maybe they need to rob a store to keep their child alive. That doesn't mean it's not theft.

Taxation without representation is, and I want the government held accountable and all my tax money returned with interest the thieving bastards.

81% of federal revenue is through income and payroll taxes.

11% is through corporate tax.

Seems pretty fair.

Theft can be "fair," depending on your definition of the word.

I'm not asking if taxes are fair.

Al Capone said, "Capitalism is the legitimate racket of the ruling class." Taxes then are the legitimate racket of the government. Life is one big shakedown.

If it is to perform a function that the private sector can not or will not, and it's important to the safety and/or infrastructure of the nation, no. Otherwise, yes.

Any tax not associated with a sale or service is theft IMO.

That includes, but not limited to:
Income
Estate
Land
Vehicle
Insurance
Etc

Does the sun rise in the east and set int he west? Is the sky blue? Is the Pope Catholic?

I agree with Vols-taxes should be consumption based, not income based.

It's fun watching someone first discover libertarianism.

The taxation as theft argument is tedious. The more interesting idea is the virtue of a more decentralized government.
