ESPN article
quote:
Zeb Noland is going from coach to starting quarterback at South Carolina. Noland, who came to South Carolina as a graduate assistant on Shane Beamer's coaching staff, will be the Gamecocks' starter at quarterback when they open the season Saturday against Eastern Illinois, sources told ESPN on Tuesday. Noland thought he had finished his playing career in May when his North Dakota State team lost to Sam Houston State in the FCS quarterfinals. He had already landed a spot as a grad assistant on Beamer's staff, but he traded in his coaching gear for a helmet and shoulder pads and joined in the race for the Gamecocks' quarterback job after Luke Doty injured his left foot earlier this preseason.

This is...interesting.
I know I will be following this guy's season and hope he has success. That would be a great story.

So does he get paid and a scholarship? Curious if he gets to keep his GA salary.

Hopefully they take our place as worst team this year

If he plays well, this would be one of the best football stories in a long time

Vandy getting excited!
I've seen crazier things. I'll never forget Coach Wally Rig pulling Paul Blake off his ranch to play QB at age 34. Easily the best season in Texas State Armadillos history.

How tf does the flagship state school of South Carolina ever get to this point. Embarrassing

Coaches kid. He's the most experienced QB on the team. He played for Iowa State before he transferred to NDSU.
Here's his media appearance from a few weeks ago.

At least he looks the part...

If they win two games he should get an extension cause it’s a miraclr

If he plays against UK probably going to throw for 300 yards and 4 TD's. We do that with any kind of backup, even a grad assistant.

And there will be at least 70k fans in Williams-Brice on Saturday to watch this abortion of a team. We better enjoy it because Eastern Illinois could easily be our only win this season.

It's not like the guy walked off the street he just played this May lol, he could be a good QB he made it to the FCS quarterfinals so he isn't trash
