Mullen will never beat Saban

The only loss I see is possibly Ole Miss. aTm can’t score enough. LSU is talented but BOTH new coordinators will have to be special, I don’t see that happening. Florida? Who do they have on the roster that makes you say they will beat Alabama?

Florida actually has a very well-rounded roster this year. The secondary is completely rebuilt with flat out better, but more inexperienced players.
There is a ton of depth at RB, and the OL should be the best Mullen has had since he got to UF.
The problem is that he's starting a QB who is not the best guy for the job.
Richardson should be starting. He's outplayed Jones by all accounts, and Mullen is starting Jones for seniority.
Jones will hold Florida back.

Spurrier is an ambassador for the University of course he's going to say stuff like this.
Yeah, what do you expect Spurrier to say? He has an office in the athletic department. He's in and around the team all the time, of course he's going to say he expects UF to win.

Matthews: But Bryce Young, I mean we don’t even know if he’s going to be the quarterback when he comes in here. He might get benched against Miami for all we know.”
Spurrier: “Can you bench a guy that’s getting a million dollars?”
Spurrier.
Gotta love him. When he's right...and he usually is...he's right.
I'm not making any predictions about Bama until Young wins his first big game, and his first opportunity is openng night.

I saw the guy who's about to start for the New England Patriots lose to Auburn 21 months ago because he threw two pick-sixes.
Like I said, I'm not making any predictions about us until I see Bryce Young win a game.

Spurrier doesn't have to eat the crow when his predictions fail to live up to his wit. Now, if Mullen wants to say it, I'm all ears.
^ This. If I'm Mullen, I'm on the phone with Spurrier asking him to please STFU.

With regard to the defense, I think the problem in 2020 was an absolutely ineffectual pass rush.
Mullen has a type when it comes to DCs and they almost always get risky with backend coverage in favor of enhancing the opportunity for TFLs, sacks, strip fumbles, etc at the line of scrimmage.
If they can't produce pass rush, the coordinator either has to do something they are not accustom to doing (bend but don't break) or crank up the dial on the blitz packages thus increasing the risk of getting burned.
The first couple of years at Florida, Mullen's roster had pretty good quick twitch up front and seemed to be deep with their rotations too. 2020 was broadly a bad year for defense because of the fricked up off-season. So maybe it is a mulligan year but if the trend continues then Florida will struggle to win without scoring 40+ against most good opponents.

Cox and Carter both return, and Mullen went out and got 2 transfers for depth. Chatfield and Bogle likely will have a bigger role this year, which is a good thing, same thing with Dextor.
DL isn’t as much of a concern as the LB group. The LB group last year was terrible, only marginally better than the secondary.
Florida has had slow cover LBs for a while now, which is a huge problem.

Gonna happen eventually.
Hasn't happened since 2008. That's getting into Tennessee territory.

Spurrier is the eternal optimist. UF could be down 50-3 at halftime and he'd say they're going to come back and win.

LOL Missouri does look so boring... And I hope they are right about beating bama but I wouldn't put money on it.

About time to put Spurrier in the old folks home, his mind clearly isn't what it used to be.

Spurriers right. The Swamp will rattle Bama’s new QB in his first road game. Gators pull off the upset.
The score will be about the same as the last time Bama had a all world defense and sophomore QB making his 1st road SEC start in the swamp.
Go back to 2011 and look at that game.
