You’d have to understand the bad blood between the 2 and how long that’s been festering. Plus Texas is exactly what many are warning about. They are a cancer. They may initially appear to toe the line and play nice but long term it’s just not in their genetic makeup.
They’re the most dysfunctional program there is because of the politics they play and the selfishness they exude.

Not gonna lie, I thought the whole A&M thing was a pride month celebration and the SJW’s came along for good measure.

Mizzou wasn't and still isn't a fit.
A&M made sense geographically, and I also think the passion of their fan base and the commitment to and potential for winning made them a good fit. Aggies are just weird so it was fun to make fun of them during the process.

I think most of the resentment here is many fans just don't like aTm. But it is funny that the "enemy of my enemy is my friend" deal where UT (Texas) is realized as the new teams are being welcomed by many with shivering excitement. But some years down the road much of that excitement will fade. UT (Texas) will get fawning press and many Game Day visits. Game Day will never show up in Mississippi or Missouri or South Carolina for example.

No one cares about ruining the SEC because TAMU and Mizzou already did that
This. The SEC didn’t take in any new members for almost 60 years after it’s formation, though we did lose Tulane, Georgia Tech, and Sewanee. Then after 60 years we added SC and Arky. 20 years after that we added A&M and Mizzou. Now 10 years later we are adding Texas and OU. At this point, it’s clear that the SEC will continue to change no matter what.
I know A&M fans love to hear “muh charter members” but I think they fail to realize that part of the SEC’s pride has always come from the fact that we’ve been a powerhouse conference without having to go recruit teams. Each time we add more teams, we might make the conference stronger but we also dilute the tradition of the SEC.
Here’s how long every team in the conference has been a member, in years:
Alabama - 89
Auburn - 89
Florida - 89
Georgia - 89
Kentucky - 89
LSU - 89
Ole Miss - 89
Mississippi State - 89
Vanderbilt - 89
Tennessee - 88
Arkansas - 30
South Carolina - 30
Missouri - 9
Texas A&M - 9

There was an element of "We don't need them", sure. But I think there was general agreement that Texas A&M would be acceptable (we didn't know how weird they were back then). A lot of people wanted West Virginia instead of Missouri. Missouri just felt like a weak addition we had to take in order to bring Texas A&M in. Since then, it's been a lot of regret. I'm not sure to what degree that regret is just hazing and jokes. But, I can almost guarantee how we currently feel about Texas and Oklahoma joining is the best we will ever feel about this expansion.

Unfortunately I think much of what’s considered college football traditions are fading due to the rapid changes. It’s becoming all about the almighty dollar and that never bodes well for anything except greed.

I remember following realignment back then. That's how I found this site. Everyone could see what A&M brought with the state of Texas but us. That was a real wtf moment for most. 10 years later nothing has changed. We are still the proverbial turd in the punch bowl school.

Plenty of us rejected bringing in Aggie and Mizzou. The weird part is that after 9 years I'd boot Aggie if I could only choose one.

It was more of a "we don't want them". Everyone knew full well we didn't need a shitstain second rate ag college and a bunch of Yankees
Same as now. People are free to schedule Texas and OU if you want to play them (like we have). That doesn't mean I'm jazzed about having them in the conference, it weakens the overall product just like adding y'all did

Pretty sure it was the same.. basically ‘we don’t need A&M and Missouri and we should kick Arkansas and South Carolina out too.’
Now it’s ‘we don’t need Oklahoma and Texas and we should kick A&M and Missouri out too.’

And GameDay at Ole Miss. That was pretty much a failure post.

My answer to all of the Aggies prognostications of doom and gloom is to BEAT THEM. Gameday isn’t going to go to UT more than any other SEC school if they are always dragging a few losses on the record.

seems to have a substantial amount of outright refusal and warning that it’s a bad move.
Maybe it has something to do with the fact that 10 years ago the SEC didn’t have a program that lived every day in fear of another team.
