This is just stupid. 16 teams is enough.

Sounds more like starting a new league to replace the NCAA than expanding a conference.

I'm for it. Way not. Just form a new league with blue bloods and give NCAA the finger as they walk out that door. I could see the powers at be doing this for the $$$ coming in. The Group 5 and the rest can stay in the NCAA. I'm all for the south traveling to the likes of Columbus or Madison in late October or November. Keep the traditional rivalries. And if Bama kicks arse in a snowstorm in Madison. I'm all for it. What a fun game that would be to watch!

This is, ultimately, a way of cutting out the NCAA.

Just build your own league and concentrate the revenue. NIL is just going to further the concentration of football talent into the top programs. It's always been dumb to pretend that teams like Cal or Rutgers could win a national title.

The goal is not really to create a new conference. It's to create a new league -- one with much more revenue than the old ones, as you get more high-quality matchups and massively higher TV deals.

Will those matchups get boring though? I'm all for a better schedule but does keeping those huge out of conference type matchups slightly scarce make them more special rather than happening every year?
