Was it a good basketball season?

Hochman seems to think so:
"Now, it was a positive season, to be sure. The 16-10 Tigers had a winning percentage of .615"

Meh. Double meh. Nothing to get excited about. Not now nor for the foreseeable future. Try selling tickets for that.

That sentence is redundant and dumb

We finished 7th in the SEC. We lost in the first round of the tournament. Cuonzo is 0-2 in the NCAA tournament. He is 3-4 in the SEC tournament. This year was the furthest we have advanced in the SEC tournament.
When compared to the beginning of the season, it was okay. Compared to the middle of the season, it was a very disappointing finish. The motto for the year was “To the Finish Line.” I don’t think anyone would say that the team fulfilled that. And if you’re assigning percentages of blame between coach and players, I’d say the coaches get a majority of the blame.

It was a good season. It's the type of season you build on as your leaders leave and your strong recruiting classes look to take over. Oops, there isn't a strong recruiting class. There's the rub, it was a good season, but there is no ignoring the weaknesses of the overall program.

Yes,for sure. As good as we want? No, but progress for sure. We went to the tourney again and went 16-10, which would have been 18-10, had they got play A&M and Vandy at home. Cudos to the SEC for not making up all the games as they did in Big 1e and Big 14. That cost Mizzou a line or two in seeding, just on optics.

I would be happy with the season if this was a building block for promising recruiting classes coming in. Unfortunately, this seems more like the “peak” of his program rather than a building block. In that context, this season was horribly disappointing given their 13-3 #10 nationally start.

The bar is so low. Why bother to care anymore ?
Drink, you're our only hope.

Mizzou has the softest sports media you’ll ever find. The bar for Cuonzo is just brutally low

+1
And Hochman is pretty much a weak writer who simply regurgitates whatever "hot" arguments are being made nationally in relation to local teams.
BenFred is worth reading, Hochman generally is not.

It was better than last season

When taking the experience of this ream and the outlook going forward, this is the worst shape the basketball program has been in under Cuozo.
