I’m old enough to remember when there was good NFL football on Thanksgiving.

But, I agree with the OP. My undergrad (A&M) and grad school (Texas) years, I was never home on bird day.

ETA: Check that. Was undergrad, and even then I think the last year was the week following. In grad school, I think it was always the week following. I do remember going 6-1 against the whorns, though, during my years in school.

I believe I am correct in that A&M vs Texas was a T-Day game back in the late 50's and early 60's. Lindsey Nelson was a great announcer. Yes, I am old.

It happened a couple years. A&M played Texas on thanksgiving for decades.

Historically A&M played Texas on Thanksgiving or Saturday.

Aggies wanted to keep a Thanksgiving game but LSU does not want that.

Giving up a Thanksgiving game is a small price to pay for a much better schedule.

The LSU game is generating a lot of excitement. We need to win more to turn this into a rivalry.

That’s because the Cowboys haven’t been good in 25 years.

Yes, the Detroit Lions always took their annual Thanksgiving day beatdown.

Plus the Lions losing every year rivals a Evil Kinevil thrill

The greedy NFL even encroached on Thursday night so I am glad the Egg Bowl moved back to Saturday. I hope it stays on Saturday. The NFL can have Thanksgiving because I quit watching it this year anyway.
I can live with out football today.

I remember the Thanksgiving Day games between the Aggies and texas university. They were great. Then one day Deloss Dodds said they would not play us anymore. We pleaded but he said no. He said the Thanksgiving Day game would be played every year in Austin with Texas Tech and TCU alternating. Then he told the rest of the teams in the BDF that if they scheduled us, there would be hell to pay. We responded that we would play them anytime, anywhere but he declined. It is such a shame. We miss them terribly.

Ancient history had respected rivalries on Thanksgiving Day.

VMI and VPI would play in Roanoke on Thanksgiving and then go home for the weekend. VPI was much smaller then and the stadium was smaller than many high school stadiums nowadays.
