No it isn’t.
It absolutely is easier to win in Pullman than it is in Lexington.... for many reasons:
1. WASHINGTON STATE PROGRAM HAS MORE SUCCESS
Washington State has 12 Top 25 finishes including five in the Final AP Top 10. Kentucky has just 9 Top 25 finishes, including just two in the Final AP To 10.
Most of Wazzu's success has been in recent times. Washington State has EIGHT Top 25 finishes in the past 40 years. Kentucky has just TWO Top 25 finishes in the pat 40 years.
2. LESS COMPETITION
Kentucky has to share a division with three All-Time Top 20 programs: Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee. Not to mention they also share a conference with three others: Alabama, LSU, and Auburn.... not to mention several other All-Time Top 25 programs such as Ole Miss, Arkansas, and Texas A&M.
Washington State shares a division with zero all-time Top 20 programs.... Washington is probably all-time Top 25 and Oregon is knocking on the door to that status, but the competition level between the SEC and the PAC 12 is nigh and day.
Bottomline, Washington State being known as a "tough place to win" is completely overblown. Sure, there aren't as many solid recruits up that way, but they are also playing competition that doesn't have easy access to those recruits either. They share a division with Oregon State, Cal... two programs that are quite frankly abysmal.

Well we beat Kirby and Saban this year...so there’s that. Please keep flapping your gums though.

Why is Smart so high?
Four years as a head coach, three top ten finishes, two top five finishes, an SEC title, Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl win, playoff victory, national championship game appearance...these might be a few of the reasons.

Those were games that we should’ve won. Had we not finished the year as strong as we did I would be very concerned, but the players, primarily freshmen in Pruitt’s first true class and a handful of great seniors, came through. Unfortunately it takes time - back to back solid recruiting classes, stability in the coaching staff, and players buying in. Not having our MLB Butuli at the beginning of the season was a big hit with our lack of depth and experience. And, the QB play has been mediocre at best, but I do like the direction Pruitt is taking the program.
