Do you guys think it’s time to get away from this and go back to the old offense?

Nope, this new offense is here to stay and if you don't run it, you get outscored every week.

Yep. Unless you have the most monumental defense to ever walk the planet.

There has to be a middle ground.

I disagree Georgia runs pro-style and they are doing just fine. There are benefits not running the spread offense and I can't wait for the day we go back to running a full pro style offense. We are not wearing down defenses anymore and resting our defense on our offensive possessions. This was a major benefit when we played the auburns, texas a&m, Florida and Mississippi state.

One would think. We need to find it. I miss the days of Eddie Lacy or Derrick Henry running it down opponent throats and chewing up clock.

If you get away from it , you can forget getting elite WR talent and Tua’s and Young type players . Still not convinced you can’t have both . This year was the exception , not the rule

What does running spread offense have to do with having a good DC who can put his guys in position to make plays and win games?
What does having a good spread offense have to do with missing on key player(s) in recruiting (Nakobe Dean at LB)?

I wouldnt say Georgia is doin just fine. Their own fans are hating the offense. They have just had the benefit of being in the East and having a really good defense. The injury bug seems to skip them as well.

If by old offense you mean what Georgia is doing right now then no

They most definitely are not

I gotta admit I was slightly jealous watching Georgia play yesterday. Reminded me of our old teams that just pounded you on both sides of the ball.

Let's revisit this thread after the SECC game.

I agree with you there. I am thinking Georgia will win that game by controlling the clock and smash mouth football. Fromm is a good QB too. He will have a great game against LSU defense. Hell if Ole Miss can score on them, you better believe Georgia can score that much.

We’re 109th in the country in plays per game. It’s certainly not tempo’s fault that our defense didn’t perform against LSU.
In 2016-2017, we played at a higher tempo and had a fantastic defense. Auburn plays at a higher tempo than us this year and has a better defense.

Play action with QB under center will either pull the LBs in or freeze them providing the same separation for slants or the long strike.
As well as Bama and Tua has performed with the RPOs I've been of the opinion that play action with a QB like Tua, and 4 future nfl receivers would be devastating to college defenses and coordinators.
The rpo game feast on teams with less talent, but we saw what happened when an equally talented team was able to jam our wrs at the LOS and disrupt the timing - that rpo game went to shite.
Would have loved to of seen it, but that ship has sailed.
I would also add that keeping Tua under center more often would have made for a cleaner pocket i.e. harder angles for defenders to rush, and possibly limited the number of roll out/scrambles that he has been injured on repeatedly during his UA career.
In the end the inability to convince or train Tua to get rid of the ball was his and Bamas undoing. Tua simply never learned that you could win a down with a good throw away. Seemed to me his competitive spirit viewed a loss of down as a failure. In his defense though this coaching staff gave him every opportunity to fail e.g. throwing the ball in front of his own goal line with 26 seconds left in half is probably the blunder of the saban era. What a clear lack of good judgment on behalf the staff.
Live and learn.

No, if they win it's because they have great front seven and linebacker play with adequate secondary contributions.
They also have a competent defensive coordinator.
If we had one, even with our linebackers missing we would be good defensively and you wouldn't wish to be an outdated offense.

I too get jealous when I watch a team go 3 and out on 5 of 6 second half drives.

The only issue I have had with the offense this year is the lack of rushing yards from the QB position. It's a vital piece of the spread offense and controlling the ball and clock.
In fairness to Tua, I'm sure he was instructed to really back off the QB runs this season.
