I remember a couple of Sugar Bowls where Alabama forgot to show up for.

Utah and Oklahoma games weren't that long ago, and Saban was on the sidelines for both...it can happen to any team if they lose focus.

regular bowl games have taken a hit since the playoff era began. teams with a point to make generally play better. teams disappointed in conference championships generally play worse....unless you’re notre dame, who plays worse with consistency.

Kirby was there too. Maybe it’s just him.

The CFP changed everything with Bowl games, and it is now even worse with players sitting out. That number will continue to grow, as players just decide its not worth the possibility of injury

Only exception will be playoff games

I agree with the OP, but UGA’s problem is their tweets between Saturday night and last night regarding the teams in the CFP.

Those tweets don’t happen, the Texas loss stings less for them.

throw in the fact now that key players and even some non key players will start to sit out the bowl games and we're not really going to get teams full strength out there on top of the subpar play.

And with players sitting the bowl games out now, you never know what will happen. A good team can get stomped by an inferior team. An expanded playoff is needed to make more matchups meaningful.

Utah just straight up beat us. They had more team speed than we did and Kirby has always had problems stopping that type of offense (and still does)

The Oklahoma game we didn't really show up.

2014 Music City and 2012 Peach Bowl for LSU

LSU went to both expecting to sleepwalk to victory, and lost both times

I was at the Utah game. That was just depressing.

They are actually more like what they were initially like back when they awarded the championship at the end of the regular season. Exhibition games to get younger guys some snaps before taking off for the off season and to have some fun and try to flex on teams you wouldn't normally get to play.

I'm not saying I like it, but it is what it is unfortunately

That is not going to make bowls any more meaningful to those looking in from the outside whether it's 6 or 8.

Agree. Bowl games will mean less and less as time goes on. Just an opportunity to get ready for the following year, and send off some SRs that didn't sit out

The SEC will move to cancel its Sugar Bowl arrangement with the BIG XII real soon. Book it.
