You have to up guaranteed money some. Y'all do realize he already has a lot of incentives right?
If you want to leave guaranteed money where it is, you would have to give insane numbers on those incentives

I'm glad that you clowns won't be responsible for negotiating Malzahn's salary. He is a bad loss or two away from the hot seat again... You morons are the reason coaches have these astronomical buyouts. You just want to blindly throw money at a coach after a few good wins. Another bad loss or two and everybody will be back on the Fire Gus Bus. Hopefully, Gus won't have a $20m buyout when that time comes...

If one or two losses puts him back on the hot seat then we deserve to be like Tennessee

You're not very smart are you?
Fans aren't negotiating. This is a thread for a hypothetical for shits and grins. The market is dictating the money that he can demand. TV money flowing in is dictating the money and wanting results. Gus has provided results that were asked of him.
Throwing money blindly on a coaching search for who knows what coach by following your plan of telling Gus to put up or shut up on his demands. Testing the will of a coach playing for the SEC for the second time in 5 years is a real winner there kid.
Meh, fans were upset with his handling of the LSU game and your pissed off the way he coached the Bama game.

I'd keep the same plan in force for another year and promise to renegotiated for something better next year.
If truly the AD: I'd tell Jimmy Sexton if he can't resolve this, then he can give Gus a raise from his portion of the deal.... Because I'm not much for re-purchasing what we already got every year at a higher price.... and because this year it appears the team was more the reason than coaching for the stellar year.
He's still to prove he can develop a QB. He's had the pick of the litter several times now and even the also- rans had promise... tally ... shite the bed.
He's still just as likely to run one RB at a time into the ground as he ever was. Only to find there was another stud there all-a-long to share the load.... tally.... shite the bed again. He's historically put his teams behind the eight ball (left with no losses to spare) by 3rd-4th game.... still more stinky smelly shite. And he's just as likely to go back into Gus mode (run-2 pass-1) as not, if he's got free reign to do it again.... and this is runny stinky smelly t-p wetting shite.
And no I'd not say this to Gus.... because that's the benefit and why we talk to his agent. Win out or not... it doesn't change the same stuff that's been happening year in - year out. We're just lucky to have the schedule (which is just luck - look at bama) that'll allow a 2 loss team to advance to the big show.

what world are you living in?
The reality is AU has very little leverage in this whole thing... Ark is open... FSUs about to be open... UTs still open. At least two of those programs are desperate and willing to break the bank for a guy with Malzahns resume.
That’s a dangerous game you’re playing... just remember, 5 years ago we were looking for a HC at the same time as Ark and UT... now their both certifiable dumpster fires... that could easily be us if things would’ve played out differently. That’s a huge risk

5 million Base.
2 million bonus for SEC Championship
4 million bonus for NC.
1 million dollar rebate for 7-5 or less.
10 year contract.
Buyout based on wins for most recent season.
Ex: 10 wins in 2022 = 10 million dollar buyout
3 wins in 2021= 3 million buyout

Why don't we just simply match what Arkansas offers when the time comes? That would extend his contract and provide a raise. I don't see any reason to go a penny over what they offer. He will flirt for the pay increase, but he really doesn't wanna leave Auburn for Arkansas.
If he does leave, so be it. That means we were and always will be at risk of losing him to Arkansas.

How high are you willing to go on an extension for Gus?
What are other head coaches making in the SEC that have been to 2 SEC Championships in their first 5 years?

Leave guaranteed money where it is. Make the deal a 4 year deal with a 1 year automatic extensions. Add incentives to where if he wins the NC, he is the highest paid coach in the conference. If he is middle of the road, he is compensated accordingly. Buyout should be the same if he leaves or if he gets fired; 2x the last year's salary + bonuses.
This..
Guys we are on a high right now! It reminds me of being at the SHIP in '13. We go up with a minute + and blow it and crash back to Earth
This is Gus's first year of winning games he should (other than LSU). Pump The brakes. Give him enough increase to keep him in town and make it worth his wild with winning incentives that could bring him up to Saban money if he delivers

It has nothing to do with a high. He is 10-2 playing for the SEC Championship and a spot in the playoffs. Second one in 5 years.
It has everything to do with the market and what is happening in regards to Gus taking a huge leap in leverage. It is the reality of the situation Auburn is faced with.

this right here really says everything. it's times like these I'm glad I'm not the freaking AD. even a good decision here is gonna leave people bitching. its tough for most folks to accept the incline this market is on. truth is with the way the averages are rising he'd have been due a raise for an average season.

This board is hilarious. A month ago, it was pitchforks and torches on Gus's lawn. Now it's lifetime contracts and trucks filled with $.
You'll have to up the guaranteed money, but I'd shift the $ upward on performance. Win the natty = best paid coach in America by $1.

A 5 year performance based contract.
$450k per 2018 regular season win.
Win Iron Bowl +$150k.
Win West +$250k
Win SEC +$1M
Win NC +$2M
Gus would be at $4.9 now with $3M left for the taking.
Pay increases- 5% increase to above numbers yearly for 2019,2020,2021,2022
Buyout- if fired for poor performance- 1 year based on the previous years performance.
Buyout if he leaves for another job- He would owe us 1 years pay based on his previous year's performance.

Prepare yourselves. We're about to have to fork over a shite ton of money to Gus if this Jimbo contract is real.
