How is Michigan ranked ahead of OSU, when they just lost the head to head?

I get the whole head to head argument for Michigan with victories over Penn State and Wisconsin...but if we are to consider the "body of work" over the entire season, 3rd in your division really doesn't hold up well for Michigan.

Eye test wise...It is hard to not put them ahead of PSU/Wisc.

Michigan has no chance nor do I believe that they deserve a spot. Their offense is too bad for them to compete with Alabama.

If you argue Alabama should not have played in the National Championship game in 2011 because they did now win their conference,(Most LSU fans on here make that argument) then how can anyone argue that a team that came in third in their division of their conference should be in the 4 team playoffs? Wisconsin might have been ahead of Michigan in the conference making them #4 in their own conference.

Assuming Clemson and Alabama win this weekend:

4. Big 10 Champ
3. Pac 12 Champ
2. Clemson
1. Alabama

First ones out:
5. Big 12 Champ
6. Western Michigan (if they win)
7. Navy (If they win)
8. Ohio State

Here is how to solve this committee crisis.

go to 8 team playoff with the following berths

Power 5 conf championship winners (5)
At large teams (3)

Play first round week after championship games and then fill the bowls.

Play the last two rounds in the bowl format they are using now.

What they are doing now is neutering the conference championships. You could potentially have every P5 conference champion left out of the playoff...

I don't think there's anyway you can leave out Ohio State. I understand not winning your division, but IMO, they are one of the top 4 teams in the country. Their lone loss is on the road to a team that could potentially make the playoffs, if they win Saturday.

Using contemporary rankings, they have wins over #5, #6, #9. Two of those being on the road in hostile environments. Their loss was to currently #7 Penn State, in which they needed a blocked FG return to win.

The only argument I see for Washington over them is that they'll win their conference (possibly). Anyone that watches CFB can see the Pac 12 is horrible this year,. Washington's two best wins are against #18 Stanford and #20 Utah. Saying Wazzu was a good win is mind boggling also. Wazzu lost to Eastern Michigan, Boise State, and lost by 62 to Arizona. And just a reminder: Washington was held to under 300 yards at home vs USC and could only muster 17 total rushing yards in their lone loss.

Combined record of opponents
Ohio State: 84-59
Washington: 67-75

1. bama
2. clempson
3. washington/buffs
4. penn st./wisky

3 and 4 could change depending on who wins

no team "deserves" to be in the playoff if they can't win their own division, let alone their conference. period, point blank, EOT.
