Saban blocking transfer of Smith. Mom not happy

Saban versus Kirby
“So you make the choice about what’s best for the child, if you truly care about the kid. Because knowing he’s not happy here, the next-best option for him is going to a program where he’s the most comfortable, where he can have a level of success that he believes he can have.”

As long as Smith is allowed free transfer anywhere outside the SEC, I'm fine with a restriction on inside the conference (with the option to still do it and sit a year).
Seems pretty reasonable to me.

There are rules. Have your starting 5th db come to alabama and see if les releases him...

Your point is flawed lol... Alabama doesnt even play Georgia. Bama plays LSU though

Tough shite.....you want to send a player to UGA? Where its likely we could see them in the SECCG? He could have gone to Baylor but changed his mind. Plenty of other places he could play.

Nobody including any of you legal scholars knows what's going on, including myself. There has to be something else there so don't jump to the normal conclusion of the ranters. For the record if he has graduated then he should be able to transfer without worrying about what anyone thinks.

Kirby did the same thing with kids to Miami and other SEC schools, even those not on the schedule.

I have no problem with holding the line on this. The kid is from Texas, there is no particular reason to go to Georgia other than preferring it there and his former DC is head coach there. It's not in Alabama's best interest and there are loads of other schools he could attend if he chooses, some closer to home.
And if he REALLY wants to play a year at Georgia, he can sit out *as per SEC rules*. No need for anyone to demonize Saban over it. I would do the same.

Excellent point re: going somewhere outside the league. You are right, he has other options. Don't always get your favorite.

Title is misleading. Saban isn't blocking Smith from transferring. He's blocking him from getting a waiver and playing this year. If he wants to transfer, use his redshirt year and play in 2017, he can.

Yet Saban let Chris Black go to Mizzou

Saban spoke on this. The kid is free to transfer to any non SEC school he wants. Saban just isn't going to release a probable starter to another SEC team. Kirby wouldn't either.

Chris Black was never going to play, so he got to go somewhere where he could. Maurice Smith would be a starter in our pass defense packages. He isn't leaving for playing time.

Why isn't Bowling Green blocking the transfer of the WR?

Chris Black is going to start at Mizzou. There is either something else going on here or Saban is just being a dick. My bet is on the former.

But wouldn't have started at Alabama. Or even sniffed the field, in all likelihood.
Smith was a starter at Alabama in pass packages.

No one takes Mizzou seriously.
Releasing a guy who will be starter at UGA is another matter.
