Screw the kid. It's what's best for the program.

Yep asking him to be a starter on the best D in the nation or transfer to any school outside the SEC is such a screw job. Most kids would kill for those options.

Bama has invested 4 or more years recruiting, training, coaching, mentoring, educating, tutoring and more into Mo Smith. He doesn't owe Bama his soul for that, but he does owe us the honor of not going to a direct competitor where all we've invested in him could potentially be used to beat us. He should understand that.

I agree with Saban's stance on the issue, but your rationale is total bullshite.

Is Smith going to play well if he is with Bama this year? I understand not wanting to let him go to UGA, but he's not going to help the 2016 Crimson Tide much if he doesn't want to be there IMO

He is/was going to be a starter in our 4/5 wide defense.

That's three pretty great options most all of us would like to experience, yet he has his mom winning about it in the media. Grow up, Mo.

I don't really have a problem with Saban not wanting him to go to a conference opponent, but Smith and his mom have every right to use what little leverage they have to try to make it happen.

Didn't LSU allow a DB and a DE to transfer to Bama awhile back
Both were not good enough to see the field much, not sure why Bama took them to begin with but I think the DE was from Mobile area and wanted to get back in home state.

The kid's not screwed, he got his degree, he was part of 2 national championship teams and 3 SEC Championships while actually playing ball at Bama.

Now, he can take his talents anywhere outside the SEC and he will be on the field in another uniform within a month.

See earlier in the thread. Phelon Jones transferred but was restricted from playing his first year after transfer (wasn't even allowed on scholarship). Mo Smith is allowed the same transfer with a year to sit out.

Apparently this kid doesn't feel the same way or else he would not be wanting out. He has two, TWO, career starts at bama. He is a fifth year senior. Playing on "passing downs" is not significant playing time. That makes him a role player....nothing more, nothing less.

Shockingly the exact same policy Gus has implemented with his transfers.

Georgia returns everyone in their secondary. So, he is leaving his role as specialist at Alabama for a role doing the exact same thing at Georgia.

Also, once again, every coach in the SEC does this with kids who transfer within the conference. Including Saint Gus.

Not at Bama. Anyone sitting around twiddling their thumbs will be looking for a new school ASAP. This is grown man football at Alabama, come to be the best and play with the best. We expect a return on our investment and I applaud that philosophy

If he wanted to be closer to home initially, he could go to TCU or Texas. FSU, Miami, Clemson, etc would all welcome a 5th year senior who has been in the Bama system.

He's making it more difficult on himself at this point.

Does anyone remember the circumstances surrounding Felon Jones transferring from LSU to Bama?

In the grand scheme of things doesn't it seem to any objective viewer that what is in Nick Saban's best interest is what will take precedence. That is just the way it is and will always be that way even on the opposite spectrum of his program when he flushes (processes) young men out of the program so he can get a fresh 25, 4 and 5 star recruits every year. Nick is a winner and he knows how to do it.

bullshite. You are painting with a broad brush. There are examples of players transferring in this conference. Most must sit for one year. Most are not fifth year seniors. Fifth year seniors do not need to sit one year, per the NCAA.

This kid is not the starting QB. He is not even the back-up to the QB. He is a role player on the defensive side of the ball. He feels he would get significantly more playing time at UGA. I am sure he has aspirations of playing in the NFL and wants to show his skill level on an every down basis.....or at least have the opportunity to become an every down player.

You need to stop. Your head coach is Will Muschamp. Do you actually think Will Muschamp is going to let a player that actually plays and contributes transfer to Bama to play a month from now?
