.......and Jones still had to sit out the next season. Just like Smith could do.

Saban just won't allow M. Smith the waiver allowing him to play at UGA NEXT SEASON.

Mizzou not being good has nothing to do with the rules or the precedent.

the rules say we can block his transfer....Saban doesn't care that Chris Black is at Mizzou. Mizzou sucks as does Chris Black. Smith doesn't suck and neither does Kirby and UGA so we aren't inclined to help them.

Glad we got that sorted.

And LSU shouldn't have had a problem with Saban going to Bama right?

I agree with you fwiw. It's similar to high end sales roles signing non competes for your territory. If I left my job today, I couldn't target any of my current firm's accounts for 2 years, as I have working knowledge that could be used against them. It makes sense and I wouldn't want some kid leaving LSU for another SEC team, especially one like Bama or UGA who moving forward will always be contenders. frick all that. Go play for Oregon or something.

Bama has invested 4 or more years recruiting, training, coaching, mentoring, educating, tutoring and more into Mo Smith. He doesn't owe Bama his soul for that, but he does owe us the honor of not going to a direct competitor where all we've invested in him could potentially be used to beat us. He should understand that.

I have no problem with Smith not being released, but he doesn't owe Alabama a thing regardless of what they have invested in him. Alabama is not required to get shite out of him. If he wants to get on scholarship and sit around twiddling his thumbs his whole career, then he can. Sometimes you invest, and get nothing. Tough shite.

Not to mention Chris Black was not going to play at Alabama. He will play at Missouri.

Maurice Smith will play at Alabama. He's not leaving because he's 7th on the depth chart.

Bingo, Chris Black going to Mizzou was a mutual decision. Black was buried on the depth chart, and he wanted playing time and we needed the spot free for our incoming class. Mizzou is no threat to Bama this year. None of that is true with Smith and UGA. Bama has the right to grant a release or refuse a release based on what's best for their program. Kudos to Saban for not folding to public pressure.

Not at Bama. Anyone sitting around twiddling their thumbs will be looking for a new school ASAP. This is grown man football at Alabama, come to be the best and play with the best. We expect a return on our investment and I applaud that philosophy. This isn't peewee league where everyone get's their feelings massaged. And guess what, the NFL or the workforce operates the same way, so kids best get used to it. Mo can play for Bama or go to an non-SEC school, or sit out a year at UGA, That's three pretty great options most all of us would like to experience, yet he has his mom winning about it in the media. Grow up, Mo.

As usual, there are a bunch of clowns around here who can't/don't think past their noses. Saban (nor Kirby) is going to make an exception and allow a player to transfer to a school that hired a coach from the player's present school. It would be stupid to ever start allowing it.

Felon Jones transferred from LSU to Bama around 2008. I remember the LSU fans rejoining when they stole this kid from Bama and Saban but he turned out to not be good.

Does anyone remember the circumstances surrounding his transfer to Bama?

Yea, I'm sure Gus would be happy letting Devaroe Lawrence transfer to Florida to play immediately next season.

Or, say, Derrick Moncrief

No doubt, and I don't blame him.

There isn't an LSU fan on all of tigerdroppings that would be okay with, say, Ed Paris or Saivon Smith leaving to play at UGA next season. They both will contribute and would take everything they learned from one of the best DB coaches in the country to a school LSU could potentially have to play in the SECCG.

Nah, son.

Is Smith going to play well if he is with Bama this year? I understand not wanting to let him go to UGA, but he's not going to help the 2016 Crimson Tide much if he doesn't want to be there IMO

Seems like a situation where Saban either has to not play him and semi-isolate him or has to get his head back on straight, or let him transfer to OSU (we could use him). Could be difficult

So its highly probable that we will face UGA in Atlanta in December so why the frick do we want to give our ex-DC who is coaching a loaded Georgia one of our better ex-players both of whom know our system like the back of their hands.
