Damn, so we've played at least twice as many games against teams coming off a bye, than any SEC team. It was a small list in that article but no other sec team was listed.

I figured I'd just post on the team board. However, I see many ways and methods that this article would rile up tSECRant.

quote:Not only that, but some teams schedule cupcakes before playing Bama. This year - Georgia played Southern University, a SWAC team; Ole Miss played Fresno State, a MWC team (record 1-5 this year); Auburn will play the Idaho vandals before Bama, but we will play a patsy before that game.

Remember our schedule in 2010? I'm pretty sure 6 teams had a bye week before they played us.
Pretty funny when people say we get favorable treatment. Sometimes it goes our way...sometimes it doesnt. Just like every other team.

I think its a pretty legitimate gripe. You'd think someone in authority in the SEC office would see that stat and do something about it.

When they do something about it the teams just schedule a cupcake instead.

I know it's nice to break up the entire SEC schedule across the entire season, but there's balance for all if the entire 8 game conference schedule only spread across the last 8-9 weeks of the season.

It didn't get any traction when it was six teams, it will not get any traction now.

These teams don't understand the best way to salvage the season for them is to have a bye/cupcake AFTER they play us. Pay attention to the opp play after us, they seem broken due to the physicality of our game.

Just to add one more to that, Mississippi State plays on a Thursday night the week before they play us. So they get a couple of extra prep days as well. If you really examine it, 7 of the 8 SEC teams we play have either a bye week, or non-conference cupcake, or some other scheduling quirk prior to facing Bama. Only Arkansas (at Tennessee) had to play a true Saturday game before playing Bama.

Larry will see this and post it on the rant

I think they should set a limit for all SEC teams at no more than 3 games against teams coming off a bye a year.

I think they did that after 2010. Now no SEC team has to play more then 3 SEC teams coming off a bye week.

Did we not play cupcakes like MTSU before ole miss and ULM before UGA?
I actually think we play better not coming my off a bye

The rival fans bitching about Bama's schedule was always preposterous. Even during the DuBose-Francione-Shula era several teams (particularly LSU and Tennessee) routinely put their byes before Bama. It's just something the Tide has to live with; one of the costs of greatness.

The SEC could schedule more conference opponents the week prior to when teams play Alabama. That's how they could fix it.
Instead of allowing ole miss, msu, lsu, tenn and auburn to have open dates to be filled with cupcakes the week before they play Alabama, the league could schedule conference games for those teams before they play Alabama.
Some think it's whining and complaining but it has legitimately been one of the factors for Alabama's last 6 conference losses. And the fact that they play sooo many more games than the next team does in conference or even in the nation is beyond ridiculous

The amazing thing is while Alabama has played 25 SEC bye week games in the last 8 years, Auburn has played 4. Auburn has had a Bye before Bama (5) more than their total bye week games (4). Since Saban has been at Bama, Auburn has never beat Alabama without a Bye week. 2007, 2010 and 2013 were all bye weeks for Auburn and I think it was the difference in 2010 and 2013.
South Carolina has only played 3 in 8 years.
TAMU has played 5 opponents with a Bye week in 3 years while Auburn has played 4 and USCe 3 in 8 years.
That is besides the 7 OOC bye week games (including FSU in 2007).
College football is not a handicap sport.

Solid post. There's a reason why everybody schedules their bye before Bama. It's their "Super Bowl" and they need every advantage to beat us. Roll Tide!
