Do you think coaching staff have begun to focus more on rankings or best for system?

Mizzou has their own evaluation system and doesn't use anybody's rankings but their own.

I sure all hell hope they don't go by what a few internet scouts think. I'd feel bad for that school.

Pretty sure Saban & Co. evaluate talent themselves. Now they might find some kids that they're unaware of from those services.

They use them to get information out and occasionally find out about a guy, but I highly doubt they care about rankings.

Recruiting sites use coaches more than coaches use them.

For all the hate that the services get -- some deserved, some just pretentious Internet "analysts" trying to sound cool -- they do serve the important function of collating and breaking down enormous reams of information that no single program (not even Bama's machine) can possibly do by itself. Yes, they're in the business of selling subscriptions, but that's the model that allows them to do what they do in the first place. Without the services, programs would have to dedicate countless man-hours to parsing information available on the Internet without the ability to narrow things down from the very start. Back before the Internet, things were simpler, but the demands of the current CFB system pretty much make the old system useless if a program wants to compete on a national level.

I think it's a legit question. There are definitely coaches out there that recruit off the rankings of the sites. Wasn't it Larry Coker that admitted to doing it at Miami? I would say it's foolish to think coaches don't do it.

Yes there are coaches that just use the services.

Evaluation. Talent of course is a big part of it, and it correlates with ranking to a big degree, but CBB goes deeper into character than previous coaches, especially Petrino.

Our D.C. Jeremy Pruitt DGAS about stars, he's all about camp/live evaluations. He's offered several off the radar guys this year. If Pruitt likes them I'm good whether 3* or 5*...

We usually use tea leaves and the grease stain patterns on John Chavis' shirt to guide in recruiting high school players. Unfortunately, the Fat A$$ is gone now, so now we're back to the drawing board...

Any coach that pays attention to external evaluations and rankings should not have a job. Almost all coaches evaluate talent themselves, either through video or in summer camps.

I doubt most coaches even rely on recruiting services for player identification --- seems like that one works the opposite way (recruiting services rely on coaching staffs).

Yeah, that is just straight up laziness. I know for a fact that LSU coaches have put in serious work with talent evaluation. Just look at TM7 and Mo Claiborne.

Every year it seems LSU "loses" a 4-5 star guy because they want to see them camp, but those guys think they should've already earned an offer and at the same time they will offer 2-3 star guys that beast out at camp

I'd say it's safe to say they really don't care much about the rankings. And it usually works out for them

Alabama has their own criteria. Recruiting sites have gotten very good, but rely on coaching evaluations IMO.
