Is Anthony Grant the best Alabama can do?

I want to say no, but really, basketball will always be a third tier sport at Alabama.
Could we afford to bring in a great coach to build it up into something good so that fans would actually care?

AU and UA have great fan support in basketball. I really can't put a finger on why both programs have trouble with fielding competitive teams.

Well, when we hired him, it was considered a great hire, but he hasn't been as good as we all thought he was. I think we might be able to do better, but the more likely solution is an assistant coach coming in to help with the offense.

1st tier-Football
2nd tier-Softball
3rd tier-Basketball
ETA: Yes you can do better... Your athletic department has tons of cash on hand

Yes. Still don't get the hate for him.

Grant is a good coach. Anyone who wants him gone is dumb.

He's a solid coach and y'all are crazy if you want him gone.

Florida, OSU, Texas etc are football-first schools that have pretty solid basketball programs. Alabama has the money, we just need the fans to give a damn and stop putting up with mediocre bball because the football team is awesome.
I'll admit I don't really care about basketball, so I am part of this problem before anyone states the obvious.

Grant having you in 2nd place in the SEC not good enough?

Honestly Grants the best we can do. We're kinda stuck. If we keep him we're gonna have performances like today, with maybe a few big wins and a couple of tourney appearances, but that's about it. Nothing major. But if we let him go, we won't hire anyone nearly as good, and we end up in a worse spot than we are in now.

Miami is ranked in the top 5. You don't have to be a traditional basketball power to be competitive every now and then. What frustrates me is how lost and inept they look on offense

You're lucky that ya'll have Grant, I still don't see why he came to Alabama. Basketball will always be over shadowed by Football. Can't even sell out yalls tiny arena. Plus Bama has one of the ugliest/worst arena's in the SEC. Damn you gumps are delusional.

You're not going to get an established coach from a high major, and you're unlikely to get a Stevens/Smart type coach from a mid-major. You're most likely to get a young up-and-comer as your best option, which is exactly what Grant was.
So, yes. And honestly, Grant hasn't done a bad job. A few NIT seasons early into a coach's tenure don't doom the program. His offense sucks, but I mainly blame that on the unathletic, unskilled bigs.
Next season will define his tenure, though. It should be his best team yet. We'll see.
