re: Crispr

quote:I’m not convinced. CRISPR requires a ton of cells to actually get what you want, and when you are getting pregnant, the female only produces one cell (ovum). So you need to take that cell out of the body, go through the process of altering the genome without killing it, put it back into the body, and then pray that you actually get the genes you want expressed. Maybe that could happen one day, but we are nowhere close to that.
I think crispr will be the building blocks with which we create the next generation of human beings.
I’m much more confident that it will allow us to cure long term chronic blood-borne illnesses (such as HIV). We would be able to take out a large pool of CD4 T cells and create mutations in CCR5 to make them resistant to HIV. We could then reintroduce those cells into the body so that the body would have a pool of HIV-resistant T cells.

Then Auburn will continue to go through a bunch of coaches because I don’t see them having a winning record against Alabama as long as Saban has the machine running.

There is shame in Aubie dressing up as a Troy Trojan while up 20-0 and then Auburn going on to be outscored 27-3.

quote:And what about Philando Castille? He told the officer he had a weapon and where it was. In the process of reaching for his wallet which he was told to do, the officer misinterpreted this as aggression. This resulted in Castile being shot and killed. The officer was acquitted of all charges. We saw the video, and it is not clear at all what Castile should have done differently.
These guys would make a bigger impact if they would start a media campaign educating people to comply and not do anything that would be perceived as threatening. Then if you feel that your were treated unfairly contact a lawyer and pursue legal action. That might actually help people not get killed and at the same time possibly revise police tactics in a positive way.

Oh you're right. I was confused on that. Still, I'm not sure what is illegal or unethical here.

So I'm not entirely sure what is the problem here. When we do surveillance on foreign adversaries, we hide the names of anyone they were talking to if they are American citizens. An unmasking request is going to the high ranking NSA officials and saying we want the name revealed. They decide whether or not you have a compelling case to have the identities revealed. What about any of this is illegal or unethical?
Also this article is written in such a way to make you think that unmasking requests were being granted every time which it says nothing of the sort.

re: Should McConnell let Single Payer go to a vote?

It would be no different than the nearly 100 Obamacare repeal bills that went up for a vote when they never had a chance of passing. It's entirely symbolic.

It's more likely that Trump personally likes Schumer because they are both New Yorkers than anything else.

The only reason Trump is negotiating with Democrats is because Paul Ryan is completely spineless and has no control over his caucus. If he did, he would simply tell Trump that he would kill anything Democrats brought to the floor and that all negotiations have to include him. Trump, or at least the people around him, have correctly realized that the Republicans in Congress can't get anything done because the party is too fractured and the leaders are unable to pull the differing factions together.
Say what you want about Pelosi and Reid, but when the Dems controlled all three branches from 2009-2011, they got a ton of major legislation through largely because of the iron grip those two had on their caucuses. McConnel and Ryan are terrible leaders unless they have to tell people no.

quote:I hope not. Scarborough is gone after this year which would make Damien the #1 back. He will probably be the top dog for a year and then bounce leaving Najee as the top guy for a year. They will all get their touches and a chance to be the top guy. It should be well known that when you come to Alabama, you have a chance to contribute as a freshman, but you will likely not be a top player until year 2 or 3.
If he doesn't play them then their will be division in the locker room and likely more transfers at the end of the year.
