Fair enouogh. He is no saint, but, as much as I probably should, I have never held college athletes to that high of a standard. If I did, I wouldn't like a lot of them. Certainly I get more joy out of rooting for guys I know have great attitudes, heart and work ethic and who I would want my daughter (if I had one) to marry.
Good point.

However, I root for a lot of guys that don't fit that mold and my guess is you do too. Just because Cam hasn't proven to have the greatest character, doesn't mean he is guilty of everything he has been accused of.
True but it hurts the perception of him.

The NCAA and I still need evidence. You, other rival fans and the general public understandably are going to have a lower threshold.
That's the $180k question.

No thanks. I quoted your statement that Auburn had proximity and NFL pipeline over Oklahoma. I pointed out that Oklahoma is good at getting guys to the NFL. No map necessary. I'm not debating proximity to Atlanta.

This would be an excellent angle for Cecil to take in an interview, especially since the NCAA has already proven he was shopping Cam.

. . either because they got religion (intentional pun) and didn't ask OR Auburn said no, why doesn't Cam end up at MSU where he wanted to go? If neither university paid, why not go where you wanted to all along?
When MS State offered, he had no other offers and he knew Mullen, so he hastily committed, with no money offers. Then when other offers began coming in, which he had not counted on, he reconsidered and committed to Auburn. He is from Georgia and AU is better than MS State for a QB with 1-2 yrs to play before hoping to get to the league. Also, his family and friends have always been AU fans and it was closer to home, etc., so he committed with no money offers. Interestingly, even after Ms State apparently knew his dad wanted money from them, they stayed hard on recruiting him until the end, after he had committed verbally to AU. When at the last minute MS State knew they couldn't get him back, the kid from LA they wanted had committed elsewhere, and others they had looked at or offered had been lost, they made a "leftover" offer to another kid from MS.

What kills me with this talk about evidence is all the people who seem to believe that the media has reported every shred of evidence that the NCAA and other pertinent agencies have.
I don't think for one second that the public knows everything.

Yeah, and I have some ocean front property in Arizona I'd like to sell you.

Cecil's solicitation made Cam ineligible to play at MSU

quote:What did he say that guaranteed MSU would turn them in? The "rented mule" comment? Have you ever seen that statement in its entireity? He is talking about the supporting cast that would be around Cam.
If Cecil knew that he effed up with MSU, then why did he tweak their noses when he tried to explain why Cam went to Auburn?
Here were his choices:
1) Say nothing.
2) Be diplomatic.
3) Say something that will guarantee that MSU is going to turn you in.
He chose door #3.
Here is the direct quote from the Montgomery Advertiser:
quote:Basically he was saying (by my way of reading it) that if he had gone to MSU, Cam would have done all the work, possibly gotten MSU to that next level (top section of the SEC West) and they could have then prospered in the future with the recruits they would bring in because of Cam's success. Auburn, on the other hand, already had proven talent on offense and was drawing kids in without Cam, and that with that around him Cam could best prosper and showcase his talents.
I didn’t think that was the right place for Cam. They just don’t have all the moving parts. Cam was going to have to be the star. He’d have to do everything himself. I didn’t want him to be a rented mule.
Auburn has far more varsity players returning, they have more skill players, they’re attracting more highly recruited players and it’s right down the street.

And this is where the quotes of the SEC by-laws about SEC institutions come in.

Which should make Cam ineligible to play anywhere.

Trust me Dude...it played out as it should. I have friends in the media and on staffs at these schools. I have been with MS State coaches at their camps, etc. They recruited him to the end. No money was asked for or received by Cam. He ended up being recruited all over, but at first it was just Dan Mullen due to his Florida connection and familiarity with Cam. Imagine what Cam could have done for MS State.

I think MSU paid $180,000 and then AU offered $200,000 and they took the best deal. Didn't Cam tell someone at MSU that he wanted to go there but that the money was too good at AU? I think they both have dirty hands.

"Cecil's solicitation made Cam ineligible to play at MSU...."
....and everywhere UNTIL HE IS DECLARED INELIGIBLE BY HIS NEW SCHOOL AND REINSTATED BY THE NCAA!!! This was not done until a few days after the end of the regular season so I'm not sure how an NCAA rule was not broken. In other words, can someone please explain to me how he wasn't ineligible for all his regular season games?

If this is the case, then how did he explain to Cam that he needed to not choose MSU, without letting Cam know that he f'd up??

No ... in the SEC all together
quote:
If at any time before or after matriculation in a member institution a student-athlete or any member of his/her family receives or agrees to receive, directly or indirectly, any aid or assistance beyond or in addition to that permitted by the Bylaws of this Conference (except such aid or assistance as such student-athlete may receive from those persons on whom the student is naturally or legally dependent for support), such student-athlete shall be ineligible for competition in any intercollegiate sport within the Conference for the remainder of his/her college career." Bylaw 14.01.3.2.

The answer is no.

The only question is if Cam knew about it. Maybe some families are different, but I know/knew everything my dad does/did on my behalf. So it's hard for us to believe Cam was out of the loop.
