Last time it was Cadillac, this time it’s Durkin. Caddy would have been an embarrassment, and Durkin hasn’t shown anything that proves he’s head coach material. Sumrall, Drink, and Lea are all better options.

It’s women and Facebook posters.

Oooh, I like him! Did you hear what he said? He’s good. They should just make him the coach.

This is what happens when all the possibilities are underwhelming

Well if the dude is doing things that weren't being done that leads to a better chance at success than the former head coach they do. It's also about a better chance of player retention

It definitely tends to be the casual fan that usually doesn't know much at all. I see a lot of women Facebook posters (and a few men) still clamoring for Cadillac.

Sometimes the interim coach is a vast improvement over his predecessor.

There was a tiny segment of the fanbase that wanted Caddy. 99% of those only wanted Caddy for one reason. To be the first at Auburn…

Accurate statement for what is out there. There’s nothing sexy about most, if any, coaches available or willing to leave their current job. Sure, Auburn may get lucky with their new hire, but I’m not betting on one that produces multiple playoff appearances, an SEC championship here or there or anything else in the current landscape.

Dumb statement. The vast majority of successful hires that are made are not "sexy" whatsoever. People like to imagine Bama hiring Saban , but that was a complete outlier. The vast majority of "sexy" coaches are not going to leave their current job. Look at the most successful head coaches in the history of the SEC...how many were "sexy" hires? Steve Spurrier was coming off an 8-4 season at Duke when Florida hired him in 1990. Oooh sexy!

Interim coaches ALWAYS get push regardless of how sexy or not sexy the outside candidates are. The reason is simple: interim coaches benefit from Proximity Bias, which is this case manifests as fans overrating the competency or capability of a coach that they already know and see and have exposure to. So whereas it is easy to criticize and pick apart the resume of some outside candidate, the normie fan will glaze over and overexaggerate the alleged qualities of the interim HC, while dismissing their own flaws.

Same reason that the backup QB is the most popular guy on the team when the starter is struggling....

You know the #1 guy can't hack it. You've seen the backup come in and look good at times and bad at times. But you overlook the bad because you have someone who is familiar and you'd rather take the chance that there is more good than bad with someone you know than with a complete unknown.

Literally restating what I just said

Why do people say Drink? He just inked a new contract extension at Missouri.

In any other cycle, Jon Sumrall is objectively a "sexy" hire.

Someone said it earlier, but there isnt a previous NC winning coach available, and gauging every other candidate by that bar is silly goose stuff.

I hope we've already got Sumrall locked up, just waiting for the right timing. BUT, if we end up with an Iron Bowl winning Durkin, thats still a really good selection.

Irrational, emotional thinking. Kind of like they do when they vote. No logic, no real research. No searching what others have said about that coach in the past, etc...

I didn't want Caddy because, even if he was successful, it would have ended badly (it almost always does). Do you really want to have to fire a former hero player?

It was fun having him out there for a few games but he made so many mistakes just in those few games, it would have ended badly. No experience head coaching.

It is not a easy job

There were tons of "be the change" fans wanting Caddy.

The rest of them that wanted Caddy have to be on the spectrum.

I wish people here would go find that thread where grown Auburn men pretended to be crying over beating a shite A&M thread. Guess who ruined their thread. This guy!
