than running a trick play on a QB kneel down at your own 20 yard line at the end of the first half.
That is something you’d expect a douche like PJ Fleck to do.
Hopefully it was OU’s esteemed offensive coordinator Arbuckle that called that and not Skeletor.

I've always thought this would be the ultimate trick play. Act like you're just running out the clock before half, and throw a strike to a wide open receiver for the score.

We see this fake kneel down and fake slides, fake clocking/spikeing the ball, etc. several times a year across the sport. I know they changed the rule on the slide a while back to prevent QB from gaining an advantage (immediately ruled down when they initiate the slide, even if it is a fake). They need to do the same on kneel downs and spikes. In theory, those plays are there for player safety reasons. But, some teams will do what they do regardless of how it looks, so until it is changed you best be prepared for it.

Leach tried this once while he was at Tech. The quarterback faked kneeling while all of the other players were just standing around idly acting like they were ready to trot off into the locker room. And they actually got the play off, but the refs called the play dead assuming the quarterback had actually kneeled without paying attention to the fact that he actually hadn't. Leach was furious. Don't know how long he let the refs hear about it at halftime. It was hilarious.

It is hilarious that anybody is whining about that particular "trick play"....
Mateer was lined up under center... the rest of the team was lined up for a kneel down...
And they ran an inside reverse with wide receiver....
As far as trick plays go... that one wasn't very tricky.
