Can you build a roster through the portal and compete? Absolutely.
Do you have to hit on a vast vast majority of these transfers to meet or exceed expectations to do so? Yes you do. Is this difficult to do year in and year out? Yes it is.
Do you still need top ranked recruiting classes to supplement your portal classes? Yes you do.
Here is why Kiffin is leaving you all for either LSU or UF:
Ole Miss 24-7 composite recruiting rankings
2024: 24th
2023: 23rd
2022: 27th
2021: 17th
2020: 10th
2019: 22nd
He can literally go to LSU or UF. Still get the portal guys that he covets AND secure top 5-10 recruiting classes at the same time.
Now, honesty tell me that you don’t see this.

Lane prefers the portal. Why pay freshmen when you can pay upperclassmen that have already proved it on the field

He likes the portal because he’s forced to almost exclusively go there.
You can’t get enough of them.
You still need top 5-10 classes to supplement a portal class.
This is not difficult to understand

They don’t want to hear this. It’s either denial or they are mentally incapable of understanding this.

I agree with this. I think most coaches either are or will be moving this direction.

To supplement their roster. NOT use it exclusively as a roster builder.
There is not enough legit top guys in the portal to create a championship roster
You still need a steady flow of blue chip freshman developing and playing.
OM can’t get the high quality classes to do this.
Thus, you are stuck in a roller coaster cycle of good years and not so good years.
He knows that this model is not sustainable to get where he wants to get- win a NC.

Lane has spoken openly about this and why he prefers the portal - you get proven players. You night want to learn about the coach you've been having wet dreams about.

Who you trying to convince? OM fans or yourself?

Ok.
Well let’s see what he can do with the same portal commitment and the ability to pull top 5 classes in the regular at LSU or UF.
Somehow, I think he will have greater consistent success.
The good news is that we will be able to measure this once he starts at his new school.
We can bookmark this and track his recurring class rankings with his portal usage to see how it compares to his 6 season in the suck.

This is forum masturbation.
He could win a NC this year with his model.

The only way you can recruit top 5 classes out of HS and actually field a NC caliber team is if you use the portal.
See OSU last year vs Clemson.
Clemson got a ton of HS 4 stars getting their asses kicked by transfers on teams that almost no HS 4 stars.
Lane understands that you should recruit HS players but that you also burn up your NIL funds doing so.
Indiana. Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas Tech.....all are built primarily through the portal.
Meanwhile Clemson is dead in the water.
Lane understood this before anyone. Some of you still clinging to the old way.

And yet somehow the LSU recruiting machine didn’t generate enough wins, forced you to shite can your coach and in fit of desperation go steal the coach from the team you are currently shitting on.

Lane hasn’t seemed to be struggling with putting together solid high level teams in Oxford year to year.
He may well end up in Baton Rouge or Gainesville but I’m not thinking ability to get a top 5 or 10 HS class every year will be the deciding factor for him.

Says the “L”3u fan whose team spent $18 mill portal dollars for what will probably be a 5 loss team.

Indiana ole miss and tech have had good seasons this year no doubt, if they make good runs in the playoffs then this would be validated but so far Indiana has been the only one who made the playoffs and was not competitive in it last year.
