Every now and then he says something intelligent. And then he goes on about a 5 month streak of complete nonsense and stupidity.

Why would Drink leave Mizzou for Auburn?

You can make a case for or against any of the guys we’re purportedly going after. If Drink is the guy, so be it. I’ll get behind him. I just hope Durkin stays on as the DC.

Honestly, we have sucked for so long that I’m not sure what it takes to make a successful program anymore. Cross my fingers and hope for the best.

Why wouldn't he talk to the powers at Auburn? Why is he talking to the ones at be?

Well, Auburn certainly has some advantages, like a more passionate fan base, and better access to talent, but there are some disadvantages too (that passionate fanbase has some downsides, and they are squeezed like a vice between Bama and UGA). I don't think it's a no brainer to leave a Missouri program that you have running well for a sort of rebuilding job at Auburn, but it's hard to argue that Auburn doesn't have more potential.

I somehow doubt that Cam Newton has much say in Auburn's coaching search. That'd be like A&M letting Johnny Manziel hire their football coach

Let's take a look at this in 2025:

Salary: at worst, it's even. Mizzou will match whatever Auburn offers. Drink is already Top 10 nationally in coaching salary.

Recruiting/Portal/NIL: Drink can use Mizzou's deep NIL fund to draw even with any historic recruiting advantage Auburn had in a world before NIL/Portal. Auburn has an advantage in high school recruiting, but that matters a whole lot less than it used to before Mizzou could buy a team out of the transfer portal.

Expectations: Clear advantage Mizzou. The fanbase and administration are happy with him. Mizzou will forgive weak seasons here and there, or coming up short in big gamesbecause it's still an improvement over Mizzou's sad historic norms. Auburn will fire Drink, like they have everyone else recently after one or two weak seasons - he won't even get a chance to get things rolling. I don't think it can be overstated how much this matters when a program is trying to hire a guy away from a stable position. You don't think Drink is aware that Auburn has fired three coaches in the past five years?

Facilities: Even. Auburn has the bigger stadium, but Mizzou is in the midst of a $250 million renovation that will bring Mizzou's spend on its stadium to over $500 million in renovations since joining the SEC in 2012. And when it comes to training facilities, the programs are pretty much dead even - which is shocking considering Mizzou had the worst facilities in the conference less than a decade ago. Both schools recently spent around $100 million on new football training facilities (Mizzou in 2019, Auburn in 2022), and then Mizzou spent another $33 million on a new indoor practice facility in 2023. Both programs have elite facilities.

Auburn has history/prestige on its side, but I don't see how that tangibly translates into winning in 2025. Especially when Auburn has been a revolving door of coaching fires, so whatever culture of winning may once have been there certainly isn't present today.

Depending on the money/raise & it would have to be big, he only leaves for PSU or Florida IMO. After his comments yesterday, it would take a big bag of money to give up what he has built at Mizzou. I still believe he can succeed at a high level at Mizzou. He is a few plays away from being in the top 10 & who knows what happens vs. A&M if Pribula plays. I do not see Auburn as a top job. Yes, they have history (if you believe in the many questionable natties they claim) & a good fanbase, but it is all about 'what have you done for me lately' in the NIL - portal era. AU will always be caught in the middle of GA & Bama. I mean AU's only recent natty involved a won bidding war for Cam Newton, so they cheated to beat the other cheaters to get the QB to pay their way to a natty. I wouldn't say AU is a better job than Mizzou in 2025.

Auburn should be the second program of choice in the ATL metro area. If they can ever do that along with competent coaching they'll hold their own against Bama and UGA. The last 2 coaches they've hired have been either a bad fit or lazy.

2025 Team Talent Composite

13. Auburn
22. Mizzou

This is in spite of Drink being at Mizzou for 6 seasons and being fairly successful while Auburn has been a dumpster fire.

Bad Auburn is still stacking more talent than great Mizzou.

The most recent 247 Facilities Ranking placed Mizzou at #27 and Auburn at #9.

There is also the issue that Auburn has to play Bama and Georgia every year going forward
