The dude has one of the best defenses in the country and pair that with a good offensive coordinator you’re easily in the playoffs, get an elite offensive coordinator……..

Let’s not

If it’s such a great idea, why didn’t A&M promote him after Fisher was fired or why isn’t Florida (where he also was DC) not considering him? The answer is, because he was a disaster when he was a HC before.

Same could have been said for Lane Kiffin in 2013. Coaches learn, grow, mature and get better.

He may or may not be cut out for the job, but I’m pulling for him. Just makes a good story. He kept those kids motivated through maybe the shittiest head coach we’ve had in our entire history.

If he goes 3-0 he IS the next HC..
If he goes 2-1 he MAYBE the next HC
If he goes 1-2 he will NOT be the next HC

Some do. Others top out as a coordinator.

Let's see how the next few weeks play out. There is a case to be made for Durkin as HC but we need to win a couple of games for that to happen.

Different time; different place. Maybe he's learned and grown. Maybe he has a passion to be at Auburn that no other candidate does. Or maybe he's not cut out for a head job.

While they should hire the best candidate available, in one way or another, everyone is a gamble...BK looked like an awesome hire for LSU, but less than four years later, they thought not.

Why don’t we at least see how he does down the stretch?

BK didn’t have multiple losing seasons before getting fired either

Lane Kiffin had an 8-5 season and 10-2 season under his belt at USC (and went 28-15 overall) before he was fired in 2013. He's not even remotely the same situation as Durkin going 10-15 at Maryland and getting fired due to the scandal.

Regardless, unless Durkin just kills it as interim coach it's kinda much ado about nothing.

Lane Kiffin had to go down several levels to FAU and prove over 3-seasons that he had learned something new after he failed at USC. He didn't just get fired at USC and then handed the Ole Miss job without proper re-vetting of his ability as an actual HC.

Keep in mind that Durkin was already a very good DC before he got the Maryland job. So the fact that he is still a very good DC now doesn't signal anything different than the last time he got hired as a HC. Why should he get to "fail upwards" and get handed an even better job than the one he failed at last time?

a good offensive coordinator

What type of offense do we want to run?

Smash Mouth Run the ball - Go get OC at G Tech

Want a Heupel with a little bit of the GO GO then talk to Golesh about who is the best OC for that maybe take the bulls one

If you truely want the GO Go offense. then go out to Brennan Marion @ Sacramento state - Pay him 1 mil to come and be the OC. That is 300K plus difference in Taxes than in Cali. That is both Passing & Smash mouth Running as the go go has 2 backs in the backfield. It is a little different

Why? The other ones turn into 100 page monstrosities that become 80% unrelated to coaching and trying to sift through it all is no more frustrating than just starting new threads.

You’re spot on.

I’m not gonna read through 30 pages of noise. It’s always the same outcome… jangalang will be arguing with 3 other posters about who has better insights. Then there will be 5 pages dedicated to bashing CorchJay for his single comment.

Page 2 is about as far as I’ll get into a topic. shite usually goes sideways after that.
