Auburn Fires Freeze after Pavia routes Auburn

Like bye weeks preceding Alabama games, I would expect coach firings to precede Alabama games. It gives them another excuse for the loss, but it also reenergizes a demoralized team, making them less predictable.

I think Freeze is safe due to the number of teams that will be looking for a coach.

Yeah Freeze getting canned would probably mean an almost automatic win for Bama in JHS...something Auburn cant stomach the idea of. This is playing more of a factor than people realize.

We've won two in a row at the cow palace. Going for 6th win in a row overall.

I disagree. Auburn is demoralized. UCLA had no business beating PSU, not matter how bad PSU is.
Also UAB vs Memphis.

Not going to happen. Freeze will not be fired this season. They are too low on the pecking order of programs looking for coaches right now.

Hard to imagine them bringing him back next year. Are the NIL donors going to come through for a coach that has lost them? Now, if he beats us, they'll be on board. Short of that, I can't imagine him returning. They might frame it as something else, but he's getting canned.

We've struggled on the road this year and JHS will be loud as hell. I don't care if the barn is 0-11 going into that game they will play us like its the last game of their lives.

Barely won that two in a row.
Alabama has two comfortable wins in JHS since they started playing there, 2001 and 2011. Toughest stadium for Alabama to win at. Alabama is 7-10 in JHS since the series started being played there in 89. Saban was just 5-4 there.
Three undefeated Alabama teams have lost there, 89, 13 and 17. Two one loss Alabama teams have lost there, 93 and 19.
This years game is going to be a nightmare.

Yep. No matter what their delusional fanbase says, they’d be the 4th biggest job of this coaching cycle (5th depending on what FSU does)

I mean if we HAD to lose an Iron Bowl, doing so when we’ve already clinched a playoff birth at 10-1 and saving Hugh’s job in the process would be the best way to do it

I've mentioned it in another thread but if you ever see their team auditorium, in big letters at the back, it's "BEAT BAMA". Not "WIN AN SEC TITLE" or "WIN A NATIONAL TITLE", Nope, it's "BEAT BAMA".
It is why they'll always be a little program, an insignificant one.
That said, the Iron Bowl is their 4th of July, New Years Eve, Christmas, Mardi Gras all rolled into one. I'm convinced their players all shot gun an entire gallon of double espresso before the game.
Add to it the weird luck, weird circumstances, freak bounces of the ball that always goes their way, the absolutely horrible officiating that always goes their way, insane placing of the ball by the refs (when Bama has the ball, we will consistently get terrible spots, when they have the ball, they always get very generous spots).
Finally, for whatever reason, Bama always seems to play really, really tense and nervous there. So weird. Even when Bama is clearly the better team, they STILL play really tight. I'm sure I'll get down voted but it's true.

And the last two wins we escaped with were against far worse Auburn teams...
Auburn's defense is legit and that unit alone will make it a four quarter battle. I've have a feeling it's going to come down to field goals and turnovers. We can't afford to miss a single kick or cough up the ball once as that'll be the difference maker.
It's either going to be an upset or another fourth quarter miracle. I honestly can't see it playing out any other way.
And assuming they do win, I'd imagine they'll overreact by giving Hugh an extension and some ungodly raise only to get fired after getting his dick smashed in BDS next year.
If he loses Durkin after this season, it's over. He'll be gone before the Iron Bowl next year. Just like Malzahn kept Chizik afloat, Durkin's the only reason Hugh still has a job at this point.

You do know that for once we have the superior field goal kicker, right? I'm okay with a kicking battle.

Auburn has played pretty much everyone on their schedule close this season. Unless they just quit before the Iron Bowl, we will be in for a battle. They have plenty of talent on both sides of the ball to give us problems. And of course its at JHS, and it will be their super bowl.
One thing that makes me feel good is that we have an absolute leader at the QB position who doesn't get rattled in rowdy away game environments. That is quite significant. We also have one of if not the best OCs in college football right now.
Another nice thing is that their red zone offense is horrible, and our red zone defense is a strength.

Would like to see Grubb try to truly open things up over the top on their back 4.

Yeah, that's another thing-Auburn's pass defense isn't great, and our strength is passing the ball.
It just seems like it will be a favorable matchup for us.

They will be 6-5 headed into the iron bowl. Doubt he gets canned for that. They have been so bad recently, that would be on pace for their best season this decade I’m pretty sure.
