Too many jobs better than ours.
Team hasn't given up like previous coaching fires at Auburn
Give Durkin a raise
Overhaul offensive staff
use money on improving roster vs paying a buyout

If we do, my expectations of next year going to the playoffs don't change.

Year 3 I was going to be OK with 8 wins. I'm not going to be OK with 8 wins next year cause we keep a dog shite coach

Irrelevant. Some of them will be looking at coaches who would never be real candidates here anyway.

Sure. But that is your defining metric? As long as the team hasn't given up, we are good?

quote:

Give Durkin a raise

Durkin is already one of the ~5 highest paid coordinators in the country. But lost in all of this talk is a hypothetical that no one wants to think about: what if Durkin leaves to be a HC elsewhere, or a team like LSU poaches him to be their DC? The job security under Freeze will be utter dogshit at Auburn. Who says that Durkin wants to stick around to get fired next season along with the rest of the staff?

Overhaul offensive staff

So tell Freeze to fire all of his buddies that he hand-selected and likely has no interest in canning. So we are now back to telling the HC how to run his program...aka: JABA.

quote:

use money on improving roster vs paying a buyout

This logic has worked wonders so far. Sure, keep throwing money onto a burning pile of garbage and maybe it will extinguish itself. The other angle to this: if you were a transfer portal player of note, why would you come to Auburn knowing that Freeze is two seconds away from getting fired in 2026 given that he has won nothing here and keeps failing?

I'm so sick of this loser mentality.

What makes LSU a better job than ours? They have some (slight) recruiting advantages? They're in a shithole of a city that offers zero incentive for a person to move there with kids. It's some of the worst weather in the country. Their fans bolt at halftime even in meaningful SEC games. Their expectations are worse than ours.

Penn State? Laughable. I will listen to zero attempts that argue that Penn State, a school riddled with despicable controversy out in the middle of nowhere, is a better job than a Big 6 SEC school.

Florida? Maybe. But I'm not sure they have the footing to make a run at being a competitive program. They seem to have more internal hindrances than we do.

If we're not the best option on the market, become it. We have a lot going for us in terms of history, recruiting, standard of living, and money.

Fire Freeze. Don't be a poohnanny.

Freeze will lose a major share of his talent in the portal after this season. Everyone knows he’s a lane dick with another year.

No OC worth anything will work in a lame duck situation and as we consistently learned with Gus, these guys with “schemes” don’t turn over play calling.

Freeze is a poor coach and next year’s schedule is much harder. He’ll likely walk into it with another rent-a-QB (which he has shown multiple times he’s a bad judge of), fewer playmakers and a fan base that doesn’t want him.

We’ll still have to scout a coaching prospect from G5 and coordinator pools. There’s no Saban out there.

We keep Freeze, we’re going more damage to this already very damaged program.

This is all correct.

He will be on the hottest of hot seats if we retain him. Which means good luck convincing elite coaching or player talent to hitch their rides to him. This is just common sense.

All of these schools hiring new head coaches will need OC's and position coaches.

I disagree, simply because I believe Hugh Freeze is a bad football coach. We will never get over the hump with him, and the hump is lower than it's ever been in my lifetime.

What he did at Ole Miss (average 9 wins a season over 3 years before it blew up) was largely due to having a very talented roster. With more parity now and an even recruiting game, he's being exposed even more. The best thing he's done in his tenure is hiring DJ Durkin and I'll give him credit for that but it's (barely) covering up what is ultimately been a disastrous tenure.

CPA I understand your reasoning but I think you’re just flat out wrong, for the reasons already listed above by many others, specifically meta.

This is a sinking ship unless somehow we finish 9-4, that’s the only way Hugh can sell next year to new recruits or desirable new hires. No one worth a damn is going to come to Auburn if Freeze finishes 6-6, he’s on borrowed time already as it is.

This is little brother mentality. Do what’s best, don’t do what’s easy. Insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different outcome.

I thought CPA were supposed to be smart. But turns out CPA just stands for can’t pass actuarials.

The Instate school with no competition for instate talent. Huge recruiting advantage. Biggest boosters are yours in the state.

Florida - The named school of the state. Fertile recruiting grounds. Yeah you have to compete with Miami & FSU but big donors. I also know that they have people who also will go in and remodel your house if you are a great recruit for minimal cost. (Seen it happen)

Penn State? Who is their competition for instate prospects? Pitt? They are the named instate school. way more alumni than we have.

All 3 of those schools have more money than we have, more alumni, more students & have recruiting advantages.

For a coach, LSU is probably one of the top 5 schools for a job.

I agree with becoming a great place where people want to come and coach but we have to have the staff, boosters et al on the same page, but I don't think we do.

I agree it is past time to fire Freeze as I never wanted him here in the first place. But I don't make decisions.

Few issues with keeping him.

#1. He will not give up his offense. We've been down this road before. A new OC will be named a lot of money will be spent and it will be the same Mickey Mouse offense

#2. He will be a lame duck and other teams will absolutely use that against us in recruiting.

#3. His overall record leaves no belief that his ceiling is higher against our competition.

I do agree we don't stack up well against the other job openings, but I think we could land someone with a higher ceiling and the same floor.

If Florida loves Drinkowitz and LSU gets Kiffin then Franklin could fall in our laps. Thats an upgrade

Moving on down we could land a Clark Lea, Dilly, or Lashlee which I would have to assume would at least be the same floor as what we got but a lot more tenacity.

I just don't see how this viewpoint is anything other than conceding next season to save money.

What other point is there to it? Hugh isn't going to become an effective leader at this point.
