How screwed would we be with a normal QB?

We have won 4 straight games in 4 weeks against ranked SEC teams, something no team has ever done. 2 of those were 3 point games. How screwed would we be with a normal QB instead of Ty Simpson? I think with a normal QB (or Milroe) we would probably have lost all 4 of those games. Without Simpson we don't win against UGA and Mizzou and I think we probably lose to Vandy and Tennessee because he did such a good job of getting protections right and converting 3rd downs.

I wouldnt stress it too much. DeBoer and Grubb have a good track record at getting elite play from the QB position (except Milroe last year, but that’s a whole other conversation).

This is weird statement to make.
Ty Simpson is a normal QB who happened to see things different on the field. Young and Jones did same thing.

Young and Jones were Heisman finalists! That's not a normal QB.

Ty is an incredible game manager, and can also can make NFL-caliber throws, which is EXACTLY what this team needed to be a serious contender. Most of us were just hoping he'd be a good game manager that could dish it out to our playmakers consistently, but he has surpassed those expectations.
Grubb clearly has been quite pivotal in his development. The guy knows wtf he is doing. He's a absolute pro that knows exactly what it takes for a QB to succeed at the position. Ty being a cfb coach's son is a really a perfect match for Grubb, and we are seeing the fruits of that.

Simpson is currently rocketing up the draft board to the first round. It's a fair question. Game manager is a very poor tag given the throws he's making are NFL throws.
Realistically I think 5-2, that first stinker is what it is and I assume we'd go 1-1 against UGA/Tenn.
Mizzou wasn't really a game until we made it one with prevent defense, even with the fumble.

Who cares?
We'll never have to find out. DeBoer & Co. are going to bring in and develop the best QBs in the country. We've got 2 ballers behind Ty Simpson, and we're bringing in 2 more in this recruiting class.
The only thing we'll have to worry about is great QBs leaving because they're stuck behind an even better QB.

There’s a system for every QB to prosper in. Ty’s abilities fit DeBoer’s and Grubb’s system very well. Milroe would have done better in maybe Kiffin’s system or even Riley’s.
Idk what a normal QB is. To be recruited to a program like Bama’s now you have to be really good I would think to even warrant such an offer. They either adapt or move on.

I think OSU, Indiana, Oregon, Miami, and Ole Miss would all have the same record with a normal QB.
My point is that Simpson has been an MVP in a way we haven't really seen other than Bryce at Alabama in a long time.

Ty is a product of progression. He has learned, developed and stepped into the role.
The offense is reflective of the scheme. A different set of coaches produce a different result.
Ty's ability to lead and confidence to adjust within the system has separated him. He is seeing the game very well right now.

I definitely would not characterize Austin Mack as a baller. I am surprised he has not transferred yet, because he will not see the playing field in meaningful minutes..
Now Keelon is a different story... he has come in strong and developed very well in his short time here. I think we are in GREAT shape at QB.

It's not a system thing. Simpson has elite pocket presence, accuracy, vision, and arm strength. He is able to make passes that most quarterbacks could never make in any system or with any amount of practice. That 4th Down pass against Missouri is something most quarterbacks will never be able to do under any circumstances.
By the same token, the only system that would have suited Milroe is the wildcat.

Not necessarily true. A lot of P4 QBs have great arms and great accuracy.
DeBoer's offense is unique, and extremely QB friendly. Not only are the route concepts unique, but so too is the way the coaches teach the QBs to throw the ball. They seem to really like QBs throwing bullet passes to WRs down the sidelines instead of rainbows.
DeBoer is a QB guru in the same vein as Kiffin and Sark, but probably better.

The Simpson I saw play in previous years is not the Simpson I see on the field now. It's almost as if - almost as if - Grubb and DeBoer might know how to coach QBs extremely well. Let's not toss ourselves over the cliff just yet.
