If you were thinking about going back and looking at last year's Tennessee game...

Don't.
Don't make the mistake I just made.
One of the most frustrating things I've ever witnessed. We had every opportunity to win that game and just handed it to the Vols because we could not get out of our own way. I really hope the game is on repeat or something this week in the practice facility, because Alabama must beat these orange clowns, they just have to.

I just remember defense getting 3 turnovers in the 1st half and Iffense doing nothing with it. And guys wide open all over the place and Milroe not throwing it.
That was the start of the downfall for Milroe last season. I was a big fan/supporter/defender of his before this game…but this was awful.

Well, I hope DeBoer & company has been looking back at last year’s game and getting determined about never letting that happen again.

Not sure why. His decision making nearly cost us against South Carolina the week before. Hindsight is 20/20 but I bet that DeBoer wishes that he had given Ty a chance last season against Tennessee.

There’s no point in watching any of the games from last year to figure out how it will relate to this year because the offense was unrecognizable both in terms of scheme and execution.
Not to say LSU and UGA weren’t fun to be at, but functionally we’re a different team on one side of the ball at least.

True. That makes it tougher for these teams to prepare for us. I imagine it would be more beneficial for opposing DCs to look at old Wsshington tape than to look at last years Bama tape.

I don't have to go back and watch it because the crapshow is so seared into my mind I can still see it. We gave that game away. My god Milroe was atrocious.

That and the refs missing a blatant PI on Ryan Williams in the endzone and an offsides call on third down that would have given us a new set of downs late in the game fricked us also.

quote:ty is not Milroe. If ty was was the QB and was also playing like this (may not have been ready for it) then we win the natty last year. He's such a drastic improvement in QB play it's insane

It is fun to speculate and that’s what sports boards are for but I really can’t say that Ty was ready in 2024. His biggest highlights in 2023-2024 was one seam pass to a TE v. USF, a few QB scrambles for big gains, and another scramble drill for a tactical risk sort of deep pass to Cuevas.
We never really got an idea of his processing speed or quick release that we’ve seen in 2025 and that has been his calling card during this 5 game run. He’s processing the defense pre and post snap then delivering the ball quickly with good accuracy. That’s why he’s in the running to be all-conference right now and we never saw it on the field until he started.
Is that something he had all along? Is that something Grubb and Sheridan have been working on with him all offseason? Right now, Ty Simpson is throwing at least 1, if not more, NFL caliber throws per game. I was positive on Ty heading into 2025 but I can’t say I expected that from him. He looks like a 1st rounder. I was just hoping for an SEC caliber starter.

I just went back and watched last year. Man, WE left 17 points out on the board in first half. We should've been up 17-0 heading into half time. Defense did their job but offense just couldn't click.

If that decision wasn't made against Oklahoma or Michigan, there was no chance of it ever being made. You don't really need hindsight either, I'm sure a quarterback coach of DeBoer's caliber looked at Milroe's mechanics on day one and saw what Bill O'Brien and every other person who has any real knowledge of the position saw in 2022.

That was a makeup for the unnecessary 2022 PI call in the endzone when Tennessee had the 4th down late and we intercepted it.

How different was USF ‘23 Ty to FSU ‘25 Ty? Not a ton imo: a couple good throws, but lots of happy feet and some questionable decisions (also hampered by porous OL).
DeBoer never gave us a chance last year to see what we had in QB2. Without putting on my tinfoil hat about LANK, etc, maybe CKD knew our OL wasn’t good enough last year to give Ty time to read and process? That’s my best guess

Probably more than that. The INT that Milroe throw on the first drive and then the interception that Moore got and returned to the UT 40 also ended up with no points were both inexcusable.

There's one important element of that game that we don't have to worry about this year.

The 17 points I mentioned... I was focused on first half alone. Felt like it would've shifted the momentum. We were capable of winning that game.... That's why this time I think everyone is going to play well.

Having a true QB has really made this season much more enjoyable to watch. Last season was a tough frustrating watch many times. I don't believe Deboer will ever let us get in that position again of not having true QB. Mack & Russell look promising to.

Wholeheartedly agree, however…
Let’s not forget that Ty is playing at an elite level, which has saved us a lot of heartache this year. Nussmeier is a true QB, and we’d have multiple losses with him throwing the rock for us. Ty is doing things in the passing game that not many other dudes out there right now can replicate. Not trying to play contrarian or anything like that, just want to give Simpson his due credit because he’s made a lot of truly incredible passes. I can’t imagine how good he would be at this point of the season had he started/played meaningful minutes last year.
