FPI is a power ranking on who would be favored on a neutral field - not an actual top 25 ranking...

Looks like they understand the game of football pretty well, and aren’t overly influenced by flukes.

Aggy draggie beats a crappy Notre Dame with a losing record and they are all of a sudden world beaters.

How is there enough data to put Penn State at #10?

Nevada: 1-3 in the Mountain West
FIU: 2-2 in CUSA
Nova: 1-2 in FCS

it’s an algorithm. Like the SP+ rankings just a formula to assign a numerical value to each team for setting spreads.

Yeah, except that it's not even that. Ole Miss is a 1-point favorite at home against LSU. This means that Vegas would favor LSU on a neutral field, even though the Tigers are 11 spots lower in FPI. At the end of 2019, AFTER the playoffs in which LSU had obliterated everyone in their path and completed arguably the best season in college football history, FPI still had LSU 3rd. That tells you a lot. But, to be clear, it doesn't reflect "ESPN bias," as there is no human judgment in it. It's just a flawed formula.

How. Two of LSU’s incredible Vitories came by one score and a special teams TD to 2-6 teams, both Clemson and Florida. Their other wins are against La Tech and SE La. Who knows how good they are.

Tell me about it. A&M gave up more points in one game against their last opponent (winless at the time) than Texas has against all 4 of their opponents combined

Talent must figure into their algorithm a lot with Bama being so high.

Their record against P4 teams lately is ungood.

I can’t believe anyone actually cares about that enough to post it. Everyone who gives even a slight shite about football knows is full blown retarded.

Yep. They’re still a little too much tied into last year’s results or FSU would be up there.

Although I’ve been laughing at LSU being overrated in the polls, they may be underrating their defense in this one and the FPI can’t take into account that Nuss may heal up some.

Bama a bit too high here despite our “talent advantage.”

Vegas knows Nuss is hurt, FPI doesn’t.

Given these FPI rankings - that explanation makes it look even worse

People getting bent about this is exactly what ESPN wants. It’ll all come out over the next 4 weeks.
