He seemed to have a decent thing going for a while and it has gone downhill fast.

Stoops coming back after the A&M fiasco. He had two feet out the door. None of the assistants wanted to follow him and A&M boosters heard the news and said fvck that. He came back and hasn’t given a shite since.

That’s the long story short.

It seems that the programs that aren’t destination programs tend to cycle up for a short time then cycle back down and so on depending on the talent coming in. Nil and portal provides a shorter window to develop a team.

He knows they don't have the money to compete long term with much of the SEC due to basketball being king. His good years were 5 - 3 SEC record years where he caught teams like FL and LSU down.

Accepting the A&M job then A&M saying just kidding. Also Liam Cohen was awesome.

I hate the idea that one team or one loss broke a coach

but honestly the Climate vs Culture thing with Shane Beamer is a potential turning point. UK was on a roll beating SC, Shane was recruiting well and Stoops just made that dumb comment. We beat them that year and dunked on them on social media. It feels like UK hasn't been the same since.

For the record, I am sure there are so many other more important factors.

Probably tie between the 41-14 loss to Louisville or the Vandy game in 2022.

lol as much as you want it to be Carolina, it wasn’t. Although, stoops has been lil Beamers bitch after his comments.

The reality is. Stoops had two 10 win seasons in 4 years. He was a king in Lexington. He got complacent. He also admitted(almost) that was about as good as he could do here. He bought a distillery, spent more time drinking out in Lexington than he did at the facility. Started recruiting based on stars/names and not culture fit, just a pile of things that haven’t worked for him. He’s been here about 3-4 seasons too long. I appreciate the good times but he won’t replicate those few good seasons again here.

Revolving door of offensive coordinators. Expected good QB's that busted, not always to their own fault, but busts none the less.

And the SEC is a real conference from top to bottom.

The SEC bottom got better as did Louisville. Those 3-6 easy wins got take away.

Believe me, A&Ms rejection of Stoops had nothing to do with Assistants.

Should have put that in two different sentences. A&M boosters didn’t want Stoops. But also none of his assistants wanted to go with him which most likely caused a riff within the staff. Which doesn’t help on field results in the least. Stoops had to return with a staff that openly didn’t want to go with him.

Not everyone can sit down and watch an Iowa game and go, ooh, that is the kind of fancy offense we need to be running here.

Coupled with losing our OL coach to cancer. Really miss Schlarrman.

And he didn't seem to take the divorce well.

Mostly this and his inability to keep an offensive coordinator but its not like Stoops ever had as dominating or something. The only difference is he isn't beating our fellow middle of the road teams like Missouri and South Carolina recently. Not taking anything away from those teams either, they've been better the last few years.

In 2022, they made it to #7 in the nation. Kind of crazy how bad they got so quickly.
