It's because the SMU HC said the SEC was weaker than the ACC

Duke would come too, right ? Obviously, them and UNC are rivals. So that makes them tied at the hip one would think.

NC
Clemson

Those two for sure.

Who else comes?
Virginia
VT
NC State
Miami
FSU
ND
Oklahoma St
West Virginia
Louisville
Georgia Tech
Memphis
Houston

I'm thinking 2 of those teams to bring the SEC to 20 teams.

People on Twitter keep mentioning UVA as an additional possibility.

Would we want ND if they remain independent in football? I kind of doubt it.

I say this as a Duke grad they aren’t coming to the SEC and aren’t tied to Carolina.

They’d just play annually in basketball and the football side would figure it out.

Duke belongs in a southern Ivy with schools like Vandy, Tulane and Wake not trying to compete with UGA and Bama in football.

UNC won't join until the following is aligned...

UNC
Duke
Clemson
GT

.... then the SEC would officially be unbeatable as the lead conference.

UNC doesn't care about Tech. You could slide NCST in there instead maybe.

But we mention them in Yea, Alabama, so I feel like we need them to come back so that the lyrics make sense to the "yutes" currently attending Bama

I'll take UNC, Duke, FSU, and or UVa.
That's it.

UVA and Duke aren’t coming. They look down their collective noses at the SEC.

I would be surprised if UNC seriously was considering the SEC. They have that snootiness thing going on too. However, they (and everyone else in ACC) is reading the tea leaves and knows the ACC is going to be a G5 conference.

I know out UGA brethren would be opposed to GT coming back and yes, they were dumb a$$es for leaving but they were a founding member of the SEC. I know I’ll be down voted (and I don’t care) but I’d be OK with them coming back.

That said, if there was expansion, UNC and Clemson would seem to me the most likely to me.

Athletics success has been good for raising Alabama’s academic prestige. I imagine it is similar for other schools. Furthermore, this SEC isn’t the one from the 1980s. The two Texas schools are top public schools. UNC is not too good for the conference UT Austin is in.

Oops, I forgot FSU. I would slide them in over GT. UNC, Duke, Clemson, FSU would all be natural fits for the SEC.

It would be a very easy transition for all of them. Although FSU may have ruffled some feathers and SEC leaders may consider them "bad actors".

Getting Clemson nets little.
Small fan base that already is overlapped by current SEC schools.

With CFB transitioning to the NFL model it isn't about specific market/fan bases as much anymore but more so the TV contract. Clemson has better name recognition and is going to draw more casuals say SMU that is in a much better market. You can promote Alabama/Clemson as your marquee game on TV and get tons of viewership which is going to drive the TV contract. They would be like the Green Bay Packers, small market fan base is smaller than you would think but even when they are down you can get some viewership of the name and we they are up, the ratings will be through the roof.

Clemson isn’t an add for either the SEC or B1G unless multiple teams are already off the table

At the end of the day you’re poaching them because Dabo is their current coach and that’s it

I think we're in the final consolidation that may result in everyone not in the Power 2 getting left behind to play amongst themselves in the junior circuit.

So you have to ask "would a premier television-contract-based college football product have Clemson and FSU in it or not?"

I think the answer is obviously yes if you take off the message board hater cap and put on the business thinking cap.

The next question is "would you rather the SEC have these Southern schools in the premier college football product or the Big Ten?"

And the answer is obviously yes because you don't want the Big Ten going past Maryland into the Southern recruiting area.
