Sounds like this week in Destin as early as Thursday a decision will be made on whether to go to 9 conference games. I have no idea what decision will be made. Anybody have a strong clue?

I think we’re going to see the 8-game plan for another two years to allow more time for everything to be sorted out geopolitically.

It sounds like the Destin meetings will formulate a plan where the decision will be based on the expanded CFP model for bids to 16 teams.

What’s the reasoning to dump the cupcake if the SEC/B1G are in charge with guaranteed spots?

Quality of matchups. As a fan, I’d rather just play sec and big 10 teams.

Same here. Dump the FCS games. Give me more SEC and quality OOC games.

Is ESPN willing to pay up? As long as Sankey attends any SEC meeting with a clear understanding of how to improve the product and make it economically viable, then and only then does it make sense.
Sankey was clearly frustrated after the 12 teams were announced in the first-ever expanded playoff. SOS didn't seem to matter much. The best matchups all season were clearly in the SEC, and we were significantly outmatched by inferior conferences with teams that had better records and CCG winners in the final voting. This is Sankey's big moment to show us how that doesn't get repeated.

If everyone would play a tough OOC schedule like Alabama then going to 9 conference games wouldn't matter.

Bragging about playing FSU and Wisconsin? It’s not a bad OOC schedule but not exactly something to lord over everyone else.

No, but it's at least a decent OOC Power 4 schedule. Everyone is guilty of being addicted to FCS teams, and some of us, like Ole Miss, still think OOC means 4 sisters of the poor. Kiffin will never be confused with Bobby Bowden.

Alabama hasn't been scared to play a tough non-conference game. But others in the conference have. I won't mention any names, but some initials are ole miss, tenner and mizzu.

SEC: "Hey ESPN are you going to give us more money for going to 9 conference games?"
ESPN: "No"
SEC: "Well 8 conference games it is!"

are they gonna reveal the 26 schedule?

I think ESPN has already "reportedly" agreed to up the contract cash. Not sure how much though.

The league office wants to go to 9 because, with 16 teams, it makes it easier to play everyone in the league within a reasonable timescale (preferably, playing everyone home and away within a four year span). It's hard to say you're in the same conference with someone when you never play them. I went to Athens for baseball two weeks ago and repeatedly heard from Georgia fans who couldn't believe that they still haven't made the trip to Kyle Field.
If we stay at 8, then we either go to that stupid one permanent opponent setup, and lose a bunch of rivalry games, or give up on playing everyone, possibly doing what the Big Ten is doing and having an ad hoc setup where some teams have 3 rivals they play every year, and some only one.

My issue is less about the # of games, but the BALANCE of games amongst all schools. Go back to divisions or pods & get rid of this new tie-breakers system created for 1 big group & who didn’t have common opponents.

I would have either made those games played this past season OR add Tx. & Ok. a year after the last schedule rotation.

There is no formal offer yet, those sources added, and the exact amount of the increase is unclear.
Until there is a formal offer that makes Sankey happy, we stay at 8 games.
