What if Beard had great players?

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. There are probably 12 SEC teams with a better roster than Ole Miss. There are probably 5 or 6 teams in this league who wouldn't start one single player from our team. Now I understand that it is also Beard's responsibility to build a talented roster, but damn. He should be in Coach Of The Year talks in the SEC, especially if a non-SEC team wins the title. His style is going to always be a turn off for the prima donna player for sure, so he will probably never have a team loaded with 4 and 5 stars. But if he ever did, look out...

Beard is a great coach. And the SEC is currently loaded with great coaches.

He’s an outstanding coach, I doubt you’ll get any argument there. Just give him the money to get the players and he’ll do fine.

Beard was already proven to be a top-notch coach before he got to Ole Miss.
Don't forget, the only reason he dropped down to Ole Miss was because of his domestic abuse problem.

And 14 made the tourney. Everyone had a good roster. Well, except 2.
Are you trying to suggest Beard can't recruit?

Not really...I just don't know if he will attract the flashy players.

Maybe yes.. maybe no..
Beard looks for players that have specific skills that he believes will work well in combination with the other players he is bringing in..
Dennis Rodman types.. but with different skillsets.
Maybe one is a great rebounder.
One is a great 3 point shooter.
One distributes the ball really well.
One plays excellent defense.
One is good in isolation.
One is a good low post scorer.
5 star players tend to be all about ME and that usually won't mesh with what Beard is trying to do.. but there are certainly better versions of each type of player he is trying to recruit.
All that being said, he did land 2 five star players at Texas.
Dillon Mitchell - who has since transferred to Cincinatti
Arterio Morris - pretty good player but train wreck otherwise.. I think he went to Kansas, but then ran into some legal issues

He would currently have great players if he did not beat his wife and was still at Texas. He actually had a roster so good there that the interim coach (who they just fired) took them to an Elite 8.
Now he is a wife beater who coaches for Old Piss. He now has a hard ceiling for who he can get.

Can't look at star ratings on paper. UF has like 2 4 star high school players on the roster. All the rest are under looked 2-3 stars and transfers. Yet people think we have 1 of the most loaded rosters in the country.
Don't necessarily need highly rated players if you're great at evaluating and developing guys.

Pearl once had Murrell committed and once really wanted Brakefield. I imagine yall have more four and five stars than Auburn

He had around $5 million this year. Didn't spend wisely on a few of them.

That chick wasn’t his wife and she recanted and said it didn’t happen. But I believe everything I read on the internets……

I'd say relax. The guy is obviously great in-game, and great through the week running the team. So you're covered there.
The fan base is great. I've never been to Oxford, but the pics of the campus look great. And the buildings are pretty too. That's a big plus. Every 18-23 year old boy likes a pretty campus.
Now look around - what team is loaded with 4 and 5 stars other than Arkansas ? Embrace your strengths - small college town with great fan support and beautiful campus. The next level for Beard will be figuring out how to manage - and leverage - all that.
Or hire someone that will. Now teams are getting General Managers. Pitino was ahead of all that back in the day at Kentucky with Burnadette Locke.

Beard might be at Ole Miss for the 2025-26 season but that'll be his last in Oxford. He's just too good not to land a top tier basketball job soon.

Fair enough. Chris Beard was who I wanted Kentucky to hire. Right up there with Pearl.

Pedullah and Dia start everywhere except Auburn

Auburn’s roster is all BP’s development. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ole Miss had a higher rated roster in terms of how they were rated coming out of highschool. Broome was a 3-star kid that had 2 D1 offers. Chaney Johnson played 3 years in D2 ball. Denver Jones played at FIU and Chad Baker Mazara is a juco kid in his 4th school in 6 years. The only start we have is Pettiford.
