SEC performance in the tournament slightly disappointing so far?

I would say GA, Tex, Mizz, Miss St & Bama (win) under achieved. Aub and Tenn were average. So far Arkansas provided the only impressive performance.

Thoughts?

I never heard of the SEC wanting basketball accolades.

A bit, but some of the SEC haters on Reddit are really over the top about it. For example, a Xavier team that went 13-7 in the Big East beating a Texas team that went 6-12 in the SEC in a de facto home game for Xavier? That's supposed to prove that the SEC is overrated? And they completely ignore how a 10th seeded Arkansas team that went 8-10 in the SEC beat a 7th seeded Kansas team that went 11-9 in the Big 12, and beat Duke OOC.

And, my God, they seriously cite Auburn's "lackluster" 20 point win? Yeah, I expected Auburn to win by more than that, but who really cares if you win that game by 20 or 40? I have a hard time even caring about Alabama's 30 second long deficit against Robert Morris. Is anybody seriously going to remember that brief deficit just 2 days from now?

Not happy until all are eliminated.

But yeah, Arkansas looked pretty tough.

opening games are win and advance - style points are meaningless -

6 seed Missouri only SEC team so far to under-perform -

Georgia was over-seeded against a very under-seeded Gonzaga - who probably should have had Missouri's spot as a 6 -

State & Baylor are mirror images of each other - and the close game which either could win was the result -

Texas should have never been in the tournament - unless they were gonna get to boat race San Diego State who absolutely had no business being in the tournament other than the sacrificial lamb Bubba needed for his tarholes -

It is an instant worrying sign if you are matched up against a team who is in the tournament pretty much every year.

It’s like bowl games. Anyone can compete in a 1 game situation

The top 4 teams have the potential to win the title, though UT would be a stretch. The rest of the league was way overrated all year.

Arkansas is the one wildcard because of their talent and getting Fland back.

They are saying Theiro may come back tomorrow if he can practice.

I may worry after a close win over a team we're supposed to dominate, but I'm not going to consider a team "underachieving" based on a close win - especially if that close win leads to 3 more close wins and a Final 4 appearance. Do that and no one is going to care that failed to win the first game by double digits or whatever.

Tournament is tough. A win is a win. Texas overall as an athletic program is an embarrassment so that’s not surprising, and losses by Georgia to Xavier Int entirely unexpected. Ms. State, Vandy and Missouri losing was expected. Question is if the top tiers don’t go far it will be a major disappointment , Aubbie, FL, Bama, Tenner and even the Aggies.

Bama has a cakewalk until Duke, but yeah. Tournament is tough.

There is no such thing as an underwhelming win in the first 2 rounds.

Even 1/16, 2/15, 3/14 games. The higher seed has the David vs. Goliath attitude and will generally play as hard as they've played all season.

Look at the dogfight UK is in right now as a 3 seed.

Gonzaga has not lost a first round game in 15 years or more.

Georgia had a nice season. Got a big win over Florida, but I don’t think very many people thought they were going far.

Bama advanced. All these 14/15 even 16 seeds have won 4 or more games in a row. They know their sets and love the game. They are well coached. A couple of guys get hot, everybody else plays hard and get to floor first, then crowd gets behind the underdog.

Drake is used to winning. Mizzou made amazing progress this year after 0-19 league performance last season.

Losing to Baylor in a hard fought game is not flaming out. MSU played hard.

Auburn was lackadaisical early then got it in gear.

We're top heavy. The top 5 teams can beat anybody and the conference is better than it ever was at the top.

But despite all the fanfare about getting 14 teams in, the truth is the bottom teams aren't that great and they would be playing in the NIT most years. The SEC benefitted from a lot of random factors this year - the ACC was down, the PAC 10 dissolved, conference realignment made things wacky elsewhere. Teams predicted to be competitive faltered, etc. Also there were no bid stealers this year - last year there were five.

The success at the bottom was more a case of last man standing than it was a talented roster with something to prove.

Georgia’s loss was so embarrassingly pathetic that it makes it tough for the rest of the league to recover.
