Was he playing last year?

No, but he had just taken the job and had a ton of shite to transition. He probably trusted it all to the Strength and Conditioning coaches while he focused on building his staff and everything else involved with first year at a program

I get the transition and not wanting to lose players but how can it be ok to be late?

This is his team now. Fully and completely. I'm more than cautiously optimistic about the future.

Is this what you said about Saban after his first year? I know the talent level was different, but expecting a guy to come in and instantly have it perfect is dumb.

The team clearly lacked discipline last year. Anyone with a brain could see that. Lets hope lesson was learned.

It's not. I can understand the new guy stepping into an operation he perceived as somewhat turnkey and expecting the staff (the players in this scenario) to behave like responsible adults. Now he has realized he has to treat them like children.

It was heading that way towards the end of Saban but he was the glue holding it together.

Yea it’s not like Saban’s last couple of squads were peak Saban teams

This was also the case while Saban was there. Been that way since the 2021 season

This has been a trend since the start of the 2022 season. It's no coincidence that it coincided with the advent of NIL and the transfer portal.

Team clearly lacked discipline for the past five years (at a minimum).
ETA: I should read the whole thread before posting. Rookie mistake by a non-rookie poster.

He said that you have to be on time to workouts now. Which means it was ok to not be on time before.

If we win the national championship next year are people going to still demand that Kalen DeBoer crawl up McFarland Boulevard with a cross on his back for the sin of thinking he could treat his 2024 players like responsible adults and not have them punch a time clock to document exactly when they entered and left the workout room?
Nowhere did Montgomery say that the coaching staff was fine with people being late to workouts. Again, what happened is probably with the “cats” not watching because they thought they were coaching adults not children, the “mice” acted like children. The “cats” will now be watching.
Although that begs the question of what kind of people we’ve been recruiting here recently to where they don’t have the responsibility or the inner drive to excel and improve themselves where someone needs to be standing over them to make sure they do something as absolutely basic as doing their workouts on time.

I've heard this BS for the last two years. The last two years teams have run their mouths and and underperformed on the field. Let's stop all the talking and start proving it on the field.

Yea, a whole lot of talking ever since 2022 about toughness and mentality and all that stuff. Very little action.
So......we'll see. Prove it.

I was told if I say I have a huge dick, it will become true. Words of affirmation and all.
