Sitting here this morning wondering if the players that left for FSU, Auburn, Florida and even Niblack at Tx wish they had thought a bit longer about sticking around and if will have an impact on player defections next portal season.
The truth of the matter is - not many transfers hurt the teams that recruit at an elite level.

The ones that left, in my opinion, were selfish anyway and although talented, were mostly about themselves instead of buying in and improving their value for themselves.

It helped create space for our own portal guys and new kids so I am happy. Getting 74 and 72 from the portal were Yuge

I will say that I don’t really blame Roydell Williams for leaving. His carries were going to be limited this year, most likely.

Who is actually making an impact for their new team?
I saw Myles Kitselman score a TD for Tennessee last night.
Caleb Downs is starting for Ohio State.
Isaiah Bond is having a decent season for Texas.
Who else?

Man don’t you know the ones who went to FSU are like WTF did I get into

Most have done little to nothing. Downs has massively underperformed at OSU. ZERO INTs, zero forced fumbles and he’s on track to have about half the total tackles he had last year.
If I was OSU, I’d want a refund on the millions he was paid to come to Columbus.
Isaiah Bond has been pretty pedestrian. Not terrible but nothing spectacular either. He’s on track to have fewer catches and yards than he had last year. I hope that leased Ferrari was worth it.
So, really, in hindsight, Bama really hasn’t lost much from the portal so far.

Agree.
He’s a great guy, he also would’ve been the 4th most talented back on the roster right now.

I know our secondary has gelled but still wouldn’t have hurt to have Trey Amos stay

RW should have tried his hand in the NFL and not at FSU.

Bond is not really doing anything to help his draft stock that couldn't have been done playing with Williams and Bernard. Arguably, he would have gotten more targets here and Alabama probably beat Tennessee if they had another option to attack their aggressive man coverage besides a true freshman. Essentially would've been just as much in the title picture and arguably done more for his draft stock. Short term paydays and comped leases on Lambos aren't everything.

Myles has been really good for Tennessee, I kinda wish we were able to hang onto him but oh well. I've barely watched Ohio St this season but yeah the numbers for Downs aren't great. Brooks has been doing really well for Louisville. Bond has been fine for Texas. I don't think any of the guys that went to FSU worked out. Aaron Anderson has looked good for LSU.
I don't have a full list but those are just the guys off the top of my head.
I would think for the most part, it's a negative for most guys to leave. Some just have had bad luck, couldn't crack the depth chart, want to get closer to home, etc. and I don't really blame them for leaving but a lot of dudes just don't pan out.

Trey Amos which was the biggest loss in the portal because of position and experience.

Amos leaving hurt more than Caleb Downs in retrospect. He would've been a stabilizing force in the secondary that has done better of late but still have no allusions of them being up to the challenge of a top passing attack.
I get why he left though. Golding's back end is similar to what he was doing here under Saban's scheme. Wommack uses more of a traditional eyes on the QB zone scheme instead of pattern match zone. Perhaps he would not have fit in?

Aaron Anderson left after the 2022 season.

It was impressive that he won the job so quickly and I wish him nothing but the best, but he’s no Minkah.

Downs should’ve never been compared to Minkah. He played well for us last year but he had clear weaknesses in coverage.
He was more of a box safety like Landon Collins. He was still a great player but he wasn’t Minkah

In the little bit that I have watched OSU, I think Seth M. has been pretty good. That was one that I think worked out fairly well for both parties.
