The Playoff System Is Broken

The real problem is everything having to do with conferences.
The Big 12 is garbage now. It should basically be a G5 conference at this point, and yet the winner gets an automatic 4-seed and first-round bye in the playoffs. That is complete bullshite.
Next, you have all of the bullshite surrounding conference championship games. I don't think anyone wants to play in one of these games. It's a total disadvantage. In the SEC you're going to face a much tougher opponent than you would face in a first-round playoff game anyway. Your team will take even more of a beating.
And then if you lose, you're totally fricked. You play an extra game for no reason, plus you end up getting a lower seed and may miss the playoffs altogether as a result.
TOTAL frickING bullshite.
The biggest problem we have in cfb today is that everything is STILL based on the loss column. This idea that every undefeated team is better than every 1 loss team who is better than every 2 loss team. It's absolute nonsense - totally stupid
The immediate fix would be just to rank the top 12, and seed the playoff accordingly.
However, whichever way you seed it, there's a good chance that the final 4 will consist of 3 SEC teams, which will just piss everyone off even more.

14 teams with 2 byes
or
16 teams with 0 byes
This is the right answer.
4 SEC
4 B1G
2 Big 12
2 ACC
1 G5
1-3 Wildcards (14 or 16 teams)
This eliminates the Win-Loss column discussion. Allow the conferences to settle it on the field and select the teams for the playoffs.
Then, instead of 1 SEC Championship Game.. SEC Playoff Championship Weekend.
1 vs 2 - CG - Winner gets 1 seed. Loser gets 2 seed.
3 vs 6 - Winner advances
4 vs 5 - Winner advances
The ratings would be a bonanza.. and everyone would be fighting all year to get one of those Top 6 seeds.

So, you would be fine with, like last year, a whole conference NOT EVEN having representation?

We actually have no idea how the playoff committee will approach conference championship games. Entirely possible they don't shite on teams for playing and losing in them.

If they don't have a single team ranked in the top 12? Absolutely.

You're looking for integrity in the result. We've already sacrificed integrity of the product (as marketed). What is college about college football? The laundry?
What's most important is that all parties involved are bagging shite loads of money. Whether or not you are happy with the result is measured by the money you keep spending, the games you keep watching.... your complaints can't be heard because it's being drowned out by the sound of money.
As a side whim, maybe some commissioner somewhere will consider peripheral non-monetary issues such as these. Or perhaps media (the real customer) will demand it.
But us jack wagons can learn to like it, or wise up and go do something else with our (evidently) worthless time.

The Big Ten and SEC needs to expand to 24 teams and have their own 16 team playoffs.

I don't understand why we don't do a 128-team playoff. Or at least 64.

I have no idea why it wasn't a 16 team playoff from the beginning.

So, missing 1 slot out of 4 is more accepted than 1 out of 12 (esp. with 4 P5 conferences).

You’ld think this format would NOT punish the CG loser like the previous version.

The lower ranks have a larger P/O format.

Because it should have been 8.

I’m in the minority, but all P5 should have had at least the CG winner in the P/O.
Now, what that format would look like, *shrug shoulders*

I like that conference champs get in.
Makes games going on with the likes of BYU and Miami still interesting.
Love that it is somewhat tied to comfernce championships.

If they are going to let the make a wish programs get in for winning their shite conferences they should expand it to 16 teams so that better teams dont get punished for not playing peewee state every week
Most years the SEC is likely going to have ~2-3 teams and even the B1G have ~1 team miss the playoffs who would have been more deserving. The difference who gets in and who doesnt with only 7 at large spots (really 6 with their slobbering of ND) is going to be semantics
Does anyone really want to watch Boise St or BYU vs UGA/Bama to determine who the title winner is?

16 teams. Every FBS conference champ, plus 6 at-large.
This is the format every other NCAA championship tournament uses.

The conference championships should strictly be for a bye.
If you lose, you stay put. If you win, you earn the bye
For example.
Alabama stays Ranked10th. Plays 3rd Texas.
Texas wins by 2 TDs. Alabama should stay put.
If Alabama wins, they get the bye, Texas stays at 3
