Seems like a good guy, just in over his head. Am I wrong?

Getting paid $26mm to forcibly retire?

No. He's going to get a 27M walking check for sucking at his job. Hard to feel bad for him

Yeah, I get that. but still he's got to be hurting that it hasn't worked out for him.

Maybe I’m just getting old but yes I do. Regardless of money. Being told you’re not good enough sucks for anyone and if the money helps you sleep better then you’re not coaching for the right reasons.

Wish I got paid that much to be shitty at my job
No

I often wonder how many of these coaches are telling their wives "look babe, we're going to make out like bandits when I'm fired, just tune out all the hate from the poor people"

No
He’ll get paid a ton of money to retire
Afterwards, he’ll land on his feet coaching somewhere else, either as a coordinator, an offensive “analyst”, or maybe a HC at a smaller school
I’m sure he’s stressed out now, but the world is his oyster
Some of the assistants and lower levels coaches on that staff, that will invariably be fired in the house cleaning, will have a tougher go of it. But Napier has it made

He had opportunities to improve his situation (fire his OL coaches, hire an OC, etc.) and didn’t do it. Time for him to go. He can feel bad counting his money on his own time.

I felt worse for him before he started bitching about the fans.
You just can’t go there when you’re literally getting paid millions by those same fans to coach a GAME

He is set for life and now his family has generational wealth (assuming no dumbass moves).
He will lose this job but there will be others on the immediate horizon so he will still get paid a good bit to coach. That’s pretty fricking awesome.
On a very basic level it sucks to be told you’re not good enough but his bank account should temper his bad mood.

No...he held out for the "big" job....he was going to be in over his head regardless of where he landed.

He made a poor choice in going to Florida. Just a bad fit. He'd have been more successful at MSU or South Carolina. People underrate how important fit is at a school.

No.
He was given basically everything he asked for from UF, and hes repeatedly stepped over himself.
- 2 OL coaches - who the frick does this? And its been an issue for 2+ years now.
- 2 DC - again WHO DOES THIS IN THE SEC?
- huge delay in portal evals - AGAIN WHO DOES THIS?
- calling his plays after 3 years of evidence it doesn't work at a high level in the SEC.
I don't feel bad for him at all. I wish him and his family well because they are good people, but if you fail this badly at a job, you're not going to keep it.

Yep. Happy to see him destroy FL though.

He seems like a flawed individual trying to be a good man. He always says the right things (the central florida basement thing was taken out of context). When needled by the press though, you can tell he gets a little angry and then internally tamps it down before responding. I think someone consciously working against their nature to try to be a good person can be more admirable than it coming naturally.
Oh, and he sucks as a football coach. So no, I don't feel bad for him and his 45-50 million dollar total compensation for 2 1/4 seasons coaching.

Yeah, I feel really bad for beta males who make more money in a year than I'll see in a lifetime.

Financially no. Otherwise yes
People talking about money, I get it, most of us would kill to have that kind of money just to walk away from something, but I think a lot of coaches see it differently.
27m is a hell of a consolation prize but he basically failed massively at the one thing a coach strives to do. He’s got a passion for coaching and he’s not wired like coach O (who actually succeeded). You get to the point where money is a given at a level like college coaching and you inevitably compare yourself to your peers, and he failed, I fully believe he’d coach for free for a few years just to be relevant as an SEC coach. I know enough rich folks to know that eventually they do stop caring about money as much as the average Joe.
This was his dream that he’d been working his arse off for and it didn’t even last for 3 seasons. I dunno if he ever gets a major coaching job again honestly. Who would hire him? Knowing LSU they probably would, if anyone.
